WV Preseason Spotlight: Harrison County (Part One)

Today will be part one of Harrison County. The Indians run the Single Wing and have a long history of great running backs and rushing offenses. 2024 RB/DB [player_tooltip player_id='866482' first='Zach' last='Rohrig'] is another very talented running back for the Indians and had a great junior season that saw him rush for over 1,500 yards and 19 touchdowns. Rohrig is at full speed as soon as the ball is snapped and runs very hard. The 5'10 180 rising senior isn't the biggest running back but he sure doesn't shy away from contact whenever defenders can actually get their hands on him. He averaged an impressive 8.2 yards per carry and 158 yards per game last season with teams often having all eleven defenders in the box against their vaunted rushing attack. Rohrig has some speed to him and if he can get an opening he's likely going the distance. He hits the hole very hard and plays like he's been shot out of a cannon. Dodd has good size for a receiver at 6'2 165 and he uses that size and reach well to make tough catches. What I liked the most about Dodd's junior film is his willingness to sacrifice his body to make the catch. He will go up in traffic to snag a pass or lay out for it. His long reach certainly helps with that part of his game and what makes him a threat on the outside. I also enjoyed seeing him include a variety of routes in his highlight reel showing his versatility as a route runner. Dodd can stretch the field but he can also help you in the short and intermediate passing game. With his size, he can also block on the outside and help you in the run and screen game. Perine is a big play machine for the Cougars who was seemingly scoring a touchdown or chunk play every time he touched the ball. He had an astounding 86% catch rate on his targets and averaged over 18 yards per catch. Perine is a WR/TE tweener who is primarily a bigger slot receiver at this stage of his career. At 6'1 200 he would need to add some weight to be a tight end at the next level but I was impressed with his play as a pure receiver. Perine can go up and make contested catches over defensive backs but he also has some playmaking ability after the catch. I thought he was a fluid athlete that moves well and has a little twitch to him. Byrd Eagles were searching for a new dynamic running back in 2022 after standout Jeremiah King graduated and they found just that in 2025 Latrell Jones. Jones exploded onto the scene last season as a sophomore and had a big year for the Eagles. The 5'10 160 rising junior played well beyond his years in 2022 and was a very versatile player showing he can help his team in a variety of ways. Of course, he's a very good runner but it was in the passing game that really jumped out to me when watching his sophomore film. You can check it down to him or hit him on wheel routes where he showed to be a very capable pass catcher which is something you don't always see with running backs and especially ones as young as Jones. He's a patient runner that does a nice job waiting for holes to open and staying behind his linemen until he can take off running. Once he gets out in space he's tough to catch and can make defenders miss. The 2025 offensive lineman is a towering 6'10 and 310 pounds and earned Class A First Team All-State last year as a sophomore. Although he's not seeing the best defensive line talent in Class A, Given was still a physical player who didn't let his height be a detriment to him. I thought he played with pretty good leverage for a player of his height and he seemed to enjoy the contact of blocking. To no surprise with how big he is, Given is a straight-up people mover. There aren't many defensive linemen in WV Class A that can match up with him and be physical enough to push him around. I thought he actually showed pretty good feet and movement for a player his size and age but there are times when he doesn't keep his feet moving. South Harrison is a run-heavy team so I didn't get to see how well he does in pass blocking but he was a force in the running game.
