Sauk County is home to Baraboo HS, Reedsburg Area HS, Sauk Prairie HS, River Valley HS, and Weston HS. Baraboo looks like it will be the top program in the county, and it is well represented in the Top 5. Overall, this county has talent for every single level. That includes current Northern Illinois DL commit Ross Liegel Ross Liegel 6'7" | 225 lbs | DL Baraboo | 2024 State WI from Baraboo. Let’s dive into the county and see who are the top prospects to know that will look to join Ross at the college level.
The top uncommitted 2024 coming out of Sauk County is the OT out of Baraboo. Kyle has an excellent 6’4″ 265 lbs frame to continue to build on. Felt carries the weight easily and has room for plenty more that he will need for the next level. On the field, Kyle is an athletic OT prospect. He is light on his feet, has the range to excel in the screen game, and also plays with the body control to be able to mirror pass rushers and track DBs out in space in the screen game. Kyle also has shown good lower body flexibility. He can get low and release that long frame into DL leading to a good push in the run game. There is a lot to like now, and even more future potential for the Baraboo OT. He currently holds multiple D2 offers.
Highlights
The 6’2″ 220 lbs athlete plays RB, FB, and LB for Baraboo, and he has the talent to play either side of the ball at the next level. On offense, Isaac would fit the mold FB mold. His running style fits his frame perfectly. Isaac is a north-south runner who lives behind his pads, and runs his feet through contact. Defenders have to earn their tackles against Isaac. Isaac also has soft hands and can be a checkdown option. On defense, Isaac uses his power and leg drive to run through blocks when he blitzes. That power makes him stout in the trenches against the run as well. Pelland is also able to play in coverage thanks to effective range and overall speed. The big man is still looking for his first offer. He is a hidden gem.
Highlights
Another hidden gem is the Sauk Prairie ATH. Connor checks in at 6’2″ 200 lbs. On offense, Connor is used at TE and in the backfield at RB. TE is his natural fit on offense, though. There the TE is able to be a mismatch over LBs with his frame, athleticism combination. Breunig also has natural hands that pluck the ball out of the air away form his body. Connor is also a natural at the LB position. He moves around the box quickly, making it hard for OL to find him and get a block on him. His play recognition is quick and he trusts what he reads. His speed is well matched for the position too. He can pursue sideline to sideline, and his sound tackling ensures quick ends to plays. The ATH holds an offer from UW- Oshkosh.
Highlights
Consider the 5’11” 185 lbs ’24 more of an ATH than a QB. He did a lot of his damage on the ground on offense, and he is an accomplished DB as well. On offense, Luke has next level speed that he uses to buy time or take off and run. Once he decides to run, Luke has strong ball carrier vision to find running lanes, set up blocks, and set up defenders in space. Vittengl is also elusive in tight spaces. His jump cuts and jukes make the defense miss in the hole. He is a natural palymaker with the ball in his hands. On defense, Luke is an aggressive CB/S. He plays downhill, and delivers solid hits as he runs hit feet to the ground. In zone coverage, Luke again is in position to use that speed after he reads what he sees in front of him. Luke can help in a lot of ways. Give him a look.
Dane Tonkinson
Dane Tonkinson
A new prospect on my radar while researching the county is LB Dane Tonkinson out of Reedsburg Area High School. The 6’1″ 195 lbs ’24 looks like a three down option for a D3 program based off his junior tape. Dane will slide out and cover the slot one on one. He has enough speed to run with them in short areas, and his short area burst/closing speed allow him to break up passes. The LB also plays with good awareness. He sniffs out screens quickly and has the range to get over to make tackles. Dane could be a breakout player this fall. Check out the tape below, and follow his senior season.
