Top Running Backs from the PSR Big Showcase
Representing the Showcase’s host facility, McCall flashed instances of electricity. Looking to have the proverbial torched passed on to him as the next dynamic back out of Sayreville, McCall was one of the quickest backs in attendance. He shook and shimmied out of danger in tight spaces. This helped him get open and bust loose in tackling simulation drills. Similarly, McCall was able to bend the corner on a dime. These smooth-yet-sharp cuts also added to his elusiveness.
This rising senior out of Millville is looking to make his mark and add a level of explosiveness to the Thunder Bolt’s backfield to compliment that of their receivers. Sharp is the type of prospect who could eek out of a fight in a phone booth. Sharp repeatedly demonstrated great dance moves, as he maneuvered up, back, left, and right when juking defenders. This shiftiness allowed him to create space for himself to operate in extremely tight quarters, where he would find a crease and accelerate past the defender.
Perhaps one of the most well balanced backs featured during the afternoon, Vomvolakis did a great job representing for his home state of Connecticut and the entire New England region. Vomvolakis was a prospect that did just about a little bit of everything – all of which he did well. Vomvolakis’ speed was stuck in a gear that he was able to repeatedly beat linebackers matched up against him. When as a receiver out of the backfield he ran crips routes and broke them off suddenly which allowed him to get open. Vomvolakis also did a nice job during the run phase of the showcase as well, often being the first to the line-to-gain and showed enough wiggle to make someone miss or create space. Finally, he appears to have a sturdy frame and has an athletic build to withstand being a lead back.
Highlights
The PSR Showcase was a great opportunity to get a second look at Wallace, who I previously saw compete at the Jersey Juice event. Wallace continued to demonstrate why he will be pushing senior running backs for the top spot in Millville’s talented backfield. Already possessing what appears to have outstanding pad level he also has the feet to match. Wallace has shown that he can pick them up and put them down in a hurry, allowing him to redirect and evade danger as it is presented to him. Similarly, Wallace showed the ability to cutback without losing much of a stride to hit an open space away from the target hole.
