This past Thursday, I attended my first Spot The Ball Showcase as they traveled to Ralston High to host several great prospects from Nebraska, Iowa, and surrounding areas. They pulled great numbers, and with that, I was able to scout out quite a few players that caught my eye.
I have my second feature from the Omaha Spot The Ball Showcase from last Thursday. This one highlights some of the top prospects in attendance that came from Iowa to ball out. Very talented group!
Sam Guill | 2024 | OL/DL | Lewis Central | 6’5″ 260 lbs
Lewis Central’s Sam Guill could be up there for OL MVP of the camp with his incredible performance. Sam competed as both an offensive and defensive lineman while showing that he has the potential to play either position at the next level. He left the biggest impression on offense, shutting down some of the top D-linemen in attendance. Sam showed great footwork and lateral quickness when dropping back. He has a strong base and upper body to help him neutralize defenders. Guill was also very disciplined with his hands, keeping this tight and inside, constantly looking for inside positioning. Sam ended the camp with his first offer from Graceland.
Caleb Cooper | 2024 | TE | Treynor | 6’4″ 220 lbs
Caleb is one of the “off-the-bus” prospects that immediately catches your attention. He’s a tall, lengthy, muscular player with great athletic traits and a massive upside at tight end. He did very well in the testing portion of the camp with times of 4.93 40-yard time, 4.41 pro agility, and jumping 9 yards in the triple jump. Caleb showed that he can move very well for his size, especially when changing direction. This translated to positional drills, where he looked fluid when running routes. Cooper is strong enough to fight off attempts to press him at the line and quick enough to create separation mid-route. He follows the ball through the catch and does a great job securing it with his big mitts. Caleb was one of the big winners of the camp, ending with offers from South Dakota Mines, Graceland, Midland, and Mount Marty. Keep an eye on this guy!
Talan Fuson Talan Fuson 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Woodward-Granger | 2026 State IA | 2026 | QB/ATH | Woodward-Granger | 5’11” 160 lbs
Woodward-Granger youngster Talan Fuson Talan Fuson 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Woodward-Granger | 2026 State IA made quite an impression with great play at QB and defensive back. He posted great times in the combine drills with a 4.69 40-yard time, 4.75 pro agility, and jumped 9.5 yards in the triple jump. Watching him move through combine drills and other indy drills I wouldn’t have thought he was a QB, with how smooth and fluid he was. He flashed a ton of upside at QB as he threw with good accuracy. Talan had several great passes where he threw with solid touch and was able to throw his receivers open. Fuson also displayed some solid arm strength and completed passes to all levels of the field. Very excited to continue watching Talan in the upcoming years.
Kelvin Daysee | 2024 | LB | Valley | 6’0″ 225 lbs
Kelvin is listed as a defensive lineman on the roster sheet, but I noticed him working with the linebackers and standing out among that group. Kelvin has the size and quickness to play inside linebacker and even come off the edge to create pressure. He moved very well during bag drills, displaying good footwork and lateral quickness. Kelvin continued to impress in linebacker drills where he used good angles to close in on backs. He does a great job breaking down in front of the ball carrier and didn’t let backs come back across his face. I hope to watch Kelvin in some pads soon to see how physical he plays.
Corbin Blair | 2025 | DL/OL | Ames | 6’2″ 305 lbs
Ames’ Corbin Blair is another standout player from a stacked OL/DL group. He played both center and nose tackle and showed a lot of upside at both, but he especially impressed me with his defensive abilities. Corbin lined up as a true NT/0-tech for several of his reps and would eat up the middle of the line. He has solid DT size with surprising quickness. He was able to win his reps right from the jump with a quick get-off and stunning blockers with his powerful initial punch. Corbin has a great base already and is only going to continue getting better as he’s only going to his junior season.
