There was plenty of talent on hand including some big-time prospects that you’ll need to know for this season and beyond. Here are some of the top WV receivers we saw at Sunday’s camp.
Demonte Martin – Hedgesville HS | 2025
Hedgesville’s Demonte Martin put on an absolute show at Sunday’s GCOH Performance Camp and was named Overall Camp MVP for his stellar performance. Martin was the very first receiver name that I wrote down when I was looking for who passed the eye test in warm-ups. He certainly looks the part at nearly 6’4 and 200 pounds and just had that look to him. Martin performed very well in 1-on-1s and dominated the competition. He went into camp without holding a college offer and by the end of the day he received his first D1 offer from UNLV. He also had some nice plays during the 7-on-7 portion of camp, and I saw him catch at least one touchdown from the plays I was able to see. Keep an eye on this 2025 prospect as he likely will end up on P5 radars by the time he’s a senior.
Kashez Gedeon – Martinsburg HS | 2025
Kashez Gedeon of Martinsburg High School was the most impressive-looking athlete from a physical standpoint at Sunday’s camp. I thought for sure a college senior snuck into camp to get some work and couldn’t believe he was only a rising junior. Gedeon is a physical specimen already and he had the talent to go with the looks. He was named one of the WR Camp MVPs for his play and was dominant in both 1-on-1s and 7on7. I saw him make two great plays and a nice touchdown catch in 7on7 and four winning reps in 1-on-1s. He’s a well-rounded receiver who can make you miss or run by you while also having the ability to go up and snag a pass. Kashez Gedeon is a name you need to follow for the next two years.
Andrew Phares – Morgantown HS | 2024
Morgantown’s Andrew Phares put on a show on his home field on Sunday and is a route-running wizard. Phares is a 5’9 160 shifty slot receiver and was a nightmare for defensive backs to cover during camp which earned him one of the WR Camp MVP awards. He can get open at any time and is a great route runner with some very good speed. Phares was clocked in the 4.5 40 range at the Coalfields & Co Showcase and those times are legit. While he’s speedy and shifty, Phares will also attempt tough contested catches and will put his body on the line. He dominated in 1-on-1s and had multiple touchdowns during the 7on7 portion of camp. The 2024 prospect has been tearing up camp season and should have a big senior season. He has already picked up multiple D2 offers this off-season.
Marshall Christus – Huntington HS | 2024
Marshall Christus was another name I wrote down immediately that passed the eye test and is another physical specimen. He has great size at 6’4 185 and looked even bigger than that. Christus was another WR Camp MVP award winner and I wholeheartedly agreed. I saw him win several 1-on-1 reps and a touchdown catch during 7on7 and he really used his size well. He can go up and get the ball while also having enough speed to run by defensive backs. Christus also has some shiftiness and wiggle to him which really helped him get open. He also showed he has great hands and is very good at making tough catches. I could definitely see him bulking up and turning into a tight end at the next level as well.
Cannon Dinger – Fairmont Senior HS | 2025
Fairmont Senior’s Cannon Dinger was another shifty slot receiver that shined at Sunday’s camp. The 5’9 165 rising junior was very good in 1-on-1s and was tough to cover. He was very quick off the snap and had some great route-running ability finding himself open often. Dinger also had some real speed and twitch when running routes. I saw him catch two touchdown passes during 7on7 and multiple winning 1-on-1 reps. Dinger is also a very good defensive back and he made some nice plays on that side of the ball as well. I could see him playing either position at the next level and is a great overall athlete. He was another WR Camp MVP award winner.
Xavier Patterson – Saint Albans HS | 2026
Xavier Patterson is only a rising sophomore but is already an impressive-looking athlete. Patterson is a TE/DE jumbo athlete but stood out during 1-on-1s catching passes. With his size at 6’1 240, he was a nightmare to defend and was just too big for most of the defensive backs to cover. He had one of the highest amounts of winning reps in 1-on-1s that I was able to see. I did not get to see much of him in 7on7, but I was very impressed with the 2026 prospect during the portions of camp that I saw. With his size and age, he will likely grow into a full-time defensive lineman, and with his athleticism, he has a very high ceiling. Depending on how he grows and develops over the next three years, I could see him being a D1 prospect by his senior year.
Some other notable receiver names I saw during camp:
Blaike Adams – Tucker County HS | 2024
Gavin Young Gavin Young 5'11" | 145 lbs | WR Hedgesville | 2025 State WV – Hedgesville HS | 2025
