This past Monday, I had the pleasure of attending Doane University’s Air Attack 7v7 Camp, where I got the chance to watch seven teams from different classes compete. From the seven, four teams made it to the final four with a chance to make it to the championships. I will be covering some standout athletes from those top four teams.
The second team review is the tournament runner-up Grand Island Senior High. The Islanders brought a solid group of players down to compete in Crete, with great two-way players, strong senior leaders, and dynamic young talent.
Bode Albers Bode Albers 6'4" | 170 lbs | QB Grand Island | 2024 State NE | 2024 | QB | 6’4″ 170 bs
– Bode will be the likely starter for the Islanders this season.
– He had a very good day, orchestrating solid drives for the Islanders and making good decisions with the ball.
– Bode did a great job moving through his reads and did a great job distributing the ball to several different receivers.
– Solid accuracy over the middle of the field and had some great throws into tight windows.
Trey Engberg | 2024 | DB/ATH | 5’10” 160 lbs
– Ty took home Camp Defensive MVP honors as selected by the coaches.
– Engberg took over one of the outside corner spots and did a great job against some of the top receivers at the tournament.
– Very good with his hand use. He closes on the ball quickly and was consistent at getting his hands up to break up the pass.
– Solid footwork and fluidity in coverage with great instincts and awareness.
Nelsyn Wheeler Nelsyn Wheeler 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Grand Island | 2026 State NE | 2026 | WR | 5’9″ 180 lbs
– One of the very exciting players in a strong Islander’s 2026 class.
– Nelsyn’s explosiveness off the ball, along with his quickness, footwork, and agility when running routes, make him a huge asset in the passing game.
– Wheeler has top-tier speed that he uses to get behind the defense and break loose for long receptions.
– He did a great job creating separation from defenders and can identify soft spots in the defense.
– Strong, reliable hands!
Caleb Richardson Caleb Richardson 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Grand Island | 2024 State NE | 2024 | RB/ATH | 5’10” 170 lbs
– The majority of Caleb’s touches this fall will likely be rushing attempts, but he really showed off his receiving skills on Monday.
– He not only displayed great hands but also did a lot of damage after the catch. Caleb used his quick twitch to bounce plays to the outside, where he could burst and finish in the endzone.
– Caleb also runs a solid route tree, not just relying on check-down passes or plays where he needs to be put in the open field. He can stretch the field vertically and make plays in the short and intermediate-range too.
Hunter Hanquist Hunter Hanquist 5'8" | 180 lbs | ATH Grand Island | 2024 State NE | 2024 | DB/WR | 5’8″ 180 lbs
– Hunter did a great job at safety, helping keep big plays to a minimum.
– He is physical at the catch point and doesn’t give up many easy receptions.
– Hanquist flashed good instincts when making a play on the ball and even came up with a few turnovers.
– He’s very shifty and twitchy, which helps him in coverage and when he’s in the slot on offense.
– I went to Hunter’s Hudl to check out his game in pads and was pleasantly surprised. He plays downhill very well, is a great tackler, can drop in coverage, rush the edge, and step into the box to defend the run. Ranked in the next update!
