The vast majority of participants represented the Class of 2024 and are headed into their senior seasons.
However, several student-athletes from the Class of 2025 made the trip to Ottawa showing their dedication to the sport of football and respect for the recruiting process.
Here is a look at five players heading into their junior seasons who caught scouts’ and coaches’ eyes during the event.
Tymar Jones, DL/OL, 6’1”, 270, Junction City
Jones was one of the first players to catch my eye at the Ottawa Mega Camp and I was astonished to see that he was in the Class of 2025. Jones has two more high school seasons to continue to develop his skills. He is lean and mean; fast and strong. The Junction City prospect can play on both sides of the ball, but I would project him to play on the defensive side where he can flat-out wreak havoc.
Petren Bartolome Petren Bartolome 6'0" | 290 lbs | OL Junction City | 2025 State KS , C/DL. 6’0”, 300, Junction City
The Bluejays had a second athlete star at the Ottawa Camp from the Class of 2025. Bartolome has a barrel-chested lineman for Junction City. He is quick for a lineman being clocked in the Forty at 5.2 seconds. His skill set is suited for guard, center, or defensive tackle. It will be interesting to see if Junction City’s football staff plays him primarily on offense or defense over the next two seasons.
Jace Lee, DE, 6’0”, 190, Mill Valley
Mill Valley is a football factory and Jace Lee could turn out to be a stud defensive lineman. Lee also plays lacrosse for the Jaguars. He is very fast and beats offensive linemen with his speed. With two years of high school football left it will be interesting to watch how he evolves. Does he get bigger, stronger, faster, or all three?
Mason Barnard, QB, 5’11”, 170, Olathe West
Barnard played a small role for Olathe West as a sophomore, but his skills are there to increase his playing time and his numbers. He accounted for 143 yards in the passing game as a quarterback, rushed for 91 yards, and made 11 receptions for 124 yards.
Cole Mathes, RB, 6’2”, 180, Humboldt
Mathes is sneaky quick and runs north to south. He has an awesome first step and hits the hole quickly. As a sophomore, he rushed for 554 yards and three touchdowns. He can also catch the ball out of the backfield. He caught seven balls for Humboldt during the 2022 season and two of them were for touchdowns. Mathes is also an accomplished baseball player and could get looks from college coaches from both sports.
JJ Crawford, CB, 5’6”, 140, Pola
Crawford posted solid testing numbers at the Ottawa Mega Camp. He was clocked in the shuttle at 4.56 seconds and in the Forty at 4.97 seconds. His standing broad jump was eight-feet-one. He also competed in track and field for Paola.
