A showcase that began five years ago by Owner/Trainer Mike McCarthy and his staff. The event’s mission purpose is to showcase and provide a stage for New England’s top Qb’s they train, and those who want to learn more about the qb position training they provide to recruits on a yearly basis.
The event continues to grow each year with additional high-profile qb’s receivers and defensive back recruits coupled with many all-level college coaches that attend. This year, the 2023 showcase was no disappointment and is surely on track to be a annual premier showcase that many New England recruits and national college coaches from all levels will want to attend next year. The showcase allows wide receivers and defensive backs to showcase their athletic abilities in a very controlled and safe environment with plenty of opportunity for reps. The staff recognizes top athlete performers and hands out Awards & MVP on the last day. This includes observation of these athletes during both days. Top Performers and MVP will be featured in another report coming soon. The following athletes were standouts that caught my eyes… This is part 1 of a 2-part series on the standout performers, I observed during the event.
Griffin Schutte Griffin Schutte 6’5″ | 250 lbs | TE The Rivers | 2024 State NewE He is ranked as our #11 tight-end in the class of 2024. He attends the Rivers School in Western Ma.
Schutte drew my attention with his large frame he carries. He also shows the ability to pluck the ball in the air. He can really move well especially going vertical. His speed pops for a large body. He made catches that displayed good body control with balance. rnAt 6’5′ 230lbs, he provides a very large target option with secure hands. He took many reps and was consistent during the event. He also stood out during the fastest camp guy competition. Solid Prospect!!!!
Anthony Ferrante Anthony Ferrante 6’3″ | 215 lbs | WR Bridgton Academy | 2024 State NewE A name not known prior to this event. Has very good length in his arms and stood out as another large target on the day. He can bend and has good body control with balance. He displayed good ball skills along with good eye and hand coordination when catching balls. Has a nice release getting out of his stance and executed good routes throw out the day. Has aggressive/physical play within his skill set. He played at Plymouth North High School last season and has reclassified into 2024 class at Bridgton Academy.
Yariel Ortiz Yariel Ortiz 6’0″ | 170 lbs | ATH Everett | 2025 NewE He is currently ranked as our #4 top athlete in the 2025 class in New England and surely showed why. His athletic skills drew attention to many coaches in attendance. He is quick, and he surely knows how to cover and be physical while doing so. Has very good instincts and reactionary skills. Has a nice smooth back pedal and can flip his hips easily. Very athletic and loves the game. He displayed a very competitive character when chatting with him, and backed it up in his reps.
Highlights
Thomas Kuefler Thomas Kuefler 5’11” | 180 lbs | WR Lawrence Academy | 2025 State NewE A name not known to me before the event. His route running abilities were at high level. He made acrobatic catches that displayed his ability to make back shoulder catches look easy. Has a very athletic fame with lean muscle. Very competitive and was observed trying to get as many reps as possible through the entire event on both days. Knows how to find separation to make the play. He can twist and turn with the best of them. Very agile and twitchy athlete. Will be taking his talent to Catholic Memorial in fall 2023 season.
Highlights
Has a solid performance and stood out, especially on 2nd day. He is a recruit I have seen and written about a few times. He was consistent once again during the day. He has alligator arms with very sticky hands. He can make one hand plucking in the air catches look easy and natural. Loves to high top the ball when its put above him and in his range. He will reclass into the 2025 class at Canterbury School in fall 2025.
HONORABLE MENTION:
Was solid the entire camp. Has good length in his arms.
