Continue ReadingI have already been impressed by Nevada’s linemen on both sides of the ball. However, I believe there are several slept on seniors in the 2024 class. I have identified five prospects whose tape should be receiving more regional attention. It may take a dominant senior year to boost their recruitments, but I believe these prospects have shown enough to prove they can impact a defense at the next level.
Trenton Ross Trenton Ross 6’1″ | 200 lbs | DL Spanish Springs | 2024 State NV is a staple on Spanish Springs’ defense. He has been invited to a Yale camp in July and I would expect him to receive more literature before summer is over. Keep an eye on Trenton’s recruitment to take off as 2024 approaches.
Good upper-body strength gets displayed shedding bigger O linemen, while Trenton’s rock-solid anchor shows setting the edge versus the run. Trenton’s burst shows in his get off and acceleration in the backfield after changing direction to pursue ball carriers in the run game. Coaches visualize Trenton’s pass rush versatility when they see him utilize both power and speed moves to get to the quarterback.
Clayton McCarrell Clayton McCarrell 6’3″ | 225 lbs | DL Faith Lutheran | 2024 State NV received his first offer from Minot State University last month. He also worked out with teammates in front of Eastern Washington coaches. Expect more offers to come Clayton’s way before 2024 gets here.
Clayton’s good awareness & range shows disrupting jet sweeps for tackles for loss. Good length and next level strength shows extending and shedding blockers in the run game. Clayton displays a good anchor versus the run and solid tackling ability squaring up ball carriers in space.
Quincy Mauga
Quincy Mauga
Quincy Mauga has experience at every position in Faith Lutheran’s three-man front. Quincy bounces around, but primarily aligns as a defensive end in a five technique. Expect him to switch positions and play in an interior spot in a college defense.
Quincy shows good quickness & athleticism shedding linemen and changing direction to tackle ball carriers in his vicinity. Next level strength gets displayed holding his ground versus double teams in the run game. A good get off and power in his punch highlights Quincy’s pass rush potential at the next level.
Anthony Comba Anthony Comba 6’5″ | 200 lbs | TE Reed | 2024 State NV is an intriguing two-way prospect out of Reed High School. The good-sized tight end has solid hands and good effort as a blocker. Still, I think college coaches see a future sack master in Anthony and I would expect his recruitment as a defender to take off this fall.
Anthony’s good shed technique and smooth change of direction get displayed easily disposing of lead blockers and closing on ball carriers at the point of attack. Lateral quickness and next level burst shows pressuring quarterbacks with inside moves from a standup outside linebacker alignment. Good length, bend, and closing speed as an edge rusher show Anthony has only begun to scratch the surface of his pass rushing potential.
Antoine Taylor Antoine Taylor 6’0″ | 280 lbs | DL Basic | 2024 State NV Jr. is a talented two-sport athlete out of Henderson, Nevada. He has visited Southern Utah University, but I am surprised the rock-solid defender does not have any offers. Expect that to change before his senior season has finished.
Antoine’s quickness allows him to slip blocks with ease, while next level range shows changing direction and closing on ball carriers in a hurry. Coaches like Antoine’s powerful punch that resets the line of scrimmage immediately after the snap. Good hand technique, plus power & acceleration allow Antoine to be a versatile interior pass rusher in college.
