The NYCHSFL was well represented as some of the top players at the event went to NYCHSFL schools. Take a look at some of my top players from the league that performed well at the showcase
At the showcase, one of the biggest breakout players was Damon Smith Damon Smith 5’10” | 170 lbs | DB Archbishop Stepinac | 2024 State NY . After not being a star on last year’s Stepinac team, he continuously made plays at the elite v showcase. Smith had one of the best interceptions of the day at the showcase which had everybody hyped up. His footwork was incredible, as everybody he covered couldn’t get a step on him. Smith also did a great job tracking the ball in the air. He had an interception but he also had a bunch of pass deflections.

Maybe the most hyped up player coming into the event, lived up to the expectations. Madu showed why he had plenty of power five schools interested in him. He utilized his length during the 1v1’s to break up passes. He had terrific lateral quickness and he didn’t have any trouble keeping up with shifty receivers. When he jammed receivers he got the advantage as he won many of his matchups on the day. Madu showed his toughness and competitiveness every single rep en route to a great performance

One of the most dominant lineman at the event. Valentine built off his amazing sophomore year by demolishing the opposition at the elite V showcase. He checked in at 5’11 and over 300 pounds. The way he moved for over 300 pounds was simply unfair at points. He was one of the quicker defensive lineman at the showcase, while easily being one of the biggest and strongest. He had a deep bag and showed different moves to keep on winning his reps throughout the day. Valentine did it with speed and also had great handwork when beating his offensive lineman.
It was a nightmare for just about any linebacker when they had to lineup with Pacheco. The way he changed direction was swift and efficient. He created separation like it was nobody’s business. He was easily able to haul in many passes and he had one of the best ankle breaking reps of the entire event when he absolutely lost one of his defenders. The Mavericks running back keeps on getting better and better each time he steps out onto the field. After the showcase he added another power five offer as Maryland is the latest school to go after him. The Terps certainly won’t be the last as Pacheco’s combination of size and speed is going to take him a long way.
It’s easy to see why Vanterpool is turning so many coaches’ heads. He is a very intriguing prospect with size at 6’1 and 190 and how he moves is incredible. I was impressed during his sophomore year with how well he could tackle and at the Elite V showcase he displayed his pass coverage. His ability to defend the pass has only gotten better. Vanterpool stepped up and locked down some terrific players during this event. He did a good job playing the ball and being able to break up passes and read the quarterback very well. He’s another elite 2025 prospect from Moore Catholic to keep an eye on.

Maybe the fastest player at the event, Johnson showed the tools of being one of the most athletic players in the NYCHSFL. He has incredible burst in his game and when the pass is thrown towards his direction he explodes towards the ball and makes a play on it. He had an incredible top speed of 22.18 MPH at the event which was the fastest that was recorded. He does a good job attacking the ball and last year he was a solid tackler for Iona Prep in the secondary as well. He recently received an offer from Syracuse and with how athletic he is, other power 5 schools will be following the trend of Johnson’s stock rising.
Another speedster I loved at this event, Spellman was all over the place making plays. While there were some reps that he could have been more polished on, Spellman was a playmaker out there. He adjusted his body and made some outstanding catches during the event. But what had separated Spellman was how he could blaze. A breakout junior season is written all over him. He was able to burn some defenders and he was smooth downfield. When working with Will Currid Will Currid 6’2″ | 195 lbs | QB Archbishop Stepinac | 2024 State NY , he is going to have a big season and have a lot of fun making plays in the open field.
