Not only were they varsity starters as sophomores, but they were varsity stand-outs that showed a ton of upside. I believe some of these guys are in for a big summer and could see their stock rise here quickly.
As always, If you have someone you think I need to see, please DM them to me on Twitter at @hsfbscout!
DB: Tavarez Edwards, 6’2″ 190, Bolingbrook
A long, rangy center fielder with outstanding ball skills and impressive build-up speed running with receivers downfield. He’s comfortable playing man in the slot, is a firm tackler in space, and is consistently over the top of targets in zone.
RB: Deshaun Williams Deshaun Williams 6'2" | 205 lbs | RB Naperville Central | 2025 State IL 6’2″ 205, St. Francis
Athletic enough to slice & dice you between the tackles, but also split out and win 1 on 1 matchups on the outside as a pass catcher. He’s got exceptional patience, oily hips, and natural vision through chaos.
DB: Le’ Javier Payne, 5’10” 170, Mount Carmel
A feisty defensive back prospect that is tough as nails and will smack you if given the chance. He closes ground in a hurry, takes great angles to the football, and can shimmy down & make tough tackles in space.
DB: Mason Ellens, 5’11” 160, Glenbard West
An aggressive strong safety prospect that can quickly read and react & make a play on the football. He’s got sideline-to-sideline range, is more than willing to stick his nose in the box as a tackler, and has compact footwork coming out of his breaks.
DB: Nashaun Brown Nashaun Brown 5'9" | 175 lbs | ATH Johnson College Prep | 2025 State IL 5’9″ 155, Jones
This young man has a ton of potential on both sides of the ball, showing smooth change of direction, soft hands, good speed, refined feet, and is a fearless competitor.
DB: Kaiser Williams, 6’4″ 185, Naperville North
A physically imposing safety with long arms, great initial burst, and plays high to low in zone. He has the speed & hips to run with targets up the seam and can add immediate value as a special teams ace.
QB: Logan Malachuk Logan Malachuk 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Nazareth Academy | 2025 State IL 5’11” 180, Nazareth
I released my top 2025 Illinois QB prospects heading into the summer and somehow forgot to add Mr. Malachuk (he should have been on it). This kid is a gunslinger with excellent touch, the ability to throw on the run, fun improvisational skills, and is a dynamic runner in the open field.
OL: Matt Marek, 6’5″ 265, Carl Sandburg
Marek, has the size and movement skills you look for in a guard at the next level. He’s violent as a down blocker, stays hip to hip on double teams, and bends well at the knees, hips & ankles.
