Not only is Track and Field a great sport, but it cross-trains the athletes to gain speed and explosion as well. Some of the best football players in District 3 participated in the District 3 Championships for Track and Field. Below are some standouts from the weekend.
Highlights
Lex Cyrus Lex Cyrus 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Susquehanna Township | 2025 State PA Susquehanna Township. Cyrus is someone I wrote about earlier this year. He is a dynamic wide receiver who is very good in the open field and when he catches the after the catch. At the 3A District 3 Track and Field event Cyrus ran a 10.45 in the 100 Meter Dash which he won and broke a District 3 record held since 1979. He also won the 200-meter dash with 21.64 times. Finally, he was on the 4X100 team and won that event as well. Cyrus will be running in the PIAA State Championship for all three events. Super impressive showing by Cyrus and a football player to keep an eye on next year.
Kason Besecker
Kason Besecker
Kason Besecker Chambersburg. Besecker is someone I had not heard a ton of buzz about, but he is a member of the 2026 class. Anyways at the District 3 Track Meet, he finished 2nd in the 3A 100 Meter Dash event. He also was part of the 4X100 Meter Dash Team who finished 3rd place. He will be running in the PIAA State Championship Meet next week. An impressive showing for a Freshman. He played defensive back and running back for Chambersburg. Someone to keep an eye on for the next few years. Besecker has elite speed and I expect we see him on the football field next year.
LaDainian Strausbaugh
LaDainian Strausbaugh
Ladainian Strausbaugh Red Lion. Strausbaugh is an explosive athlete that played running back for Red Lion. His film is super impressive with big plays all over the field. On his film, he returned a kickoff for a touchdown and several long rushes as well. At the District 3 Track meet, he finished 2nd place 3A in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.92. A super impressive time. He also finished 6th in the Districts in the 100-meter dash. He ran a time of 10.93. Strausbaugh is someone who with a strong Senior year he should get some College Football looks.
Highlights
Brandon Way Jr. Brandon Way Jr. 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Lancaster Catholic | 2026 State PA Lancaster Catholic. Way is someone I have written about a few weeks ago. He had a strong Freshman year starting at cornerback and playing running back as well. He flashed serious skills at cornerback with his ability to cover and make plays on the ball. He also played on the Junior Varsity team in basketball. He concluded his Freshman year to run track for the first time in his life. He ran a time of 11.38 at the District 2A race, which is a good number and he just missed out on the 2A State Championship. Way is someone who I expect to have a monster Sophomore year for the Crusaders of Lancaster Catholic.
Jermere Jones Jermere Jones 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Chambersburg Area | 2024 State PA Chambersburg Area. Jones is someone I profiled earlier this year. He is a quarterback with a ton of skill and talent. He can make all the throws and has good footwork in the pocket. He also has great size for the position standing 6’3″ inches tall. So at the District 3 race 3A event, he ran a time of 14.51 in the 110-meter hurdles, which placed him 2nd in the District. Winning silver is a huge accomplishment for Jones. Jones already has been getting some College Football looks, I expect that to continue.
Nick Keller
Nick Keller
Nick Keller Ephrata. Keller played wide receiver last year for Ephrata and did not put up a ton of stats, but I expect that to change this upcoming season. Keller is a good track runner and won the District 3 3A 400 Meter Dash with a time of 48.90. This is super impressive considering he is a 10th-grader. On his film you see his speed really stands out, I expect him to get plenty more playing time in the fall for Ephrata.
David Warde David Warde 6'1" | 150 lbs | ATH William Penn | 2025 State PA William Penn (York). Warde is someone I have profiled in the past. He is a legit wide receiver who has the hands, the route running and the speed to play at the next level. He currently has a College Football offer from Charlotte University. So at the District 3 track meet, he ran a 40.11 in the 300 Meter Hurdles. This was a good time, but he missed out on making it to the PIAA State Championship by a split second. So overall a good showing for a 10th grader who should have a strong Junior Year football season coming up.
Quincy Stewart
Quincy Stewart
Quincy Stewart Columbia High School. Stewart played defensive back at Columbia last year. He showed good coverage skills and did a nice job in covering and then making plays on the ball. He showed good athleticism and had 4 interceptions on the year. He won the District 3 2A 400 Meter Race with a time of 51.11. Nice work out of a dynamic player. Stewart has legit speed and should have an opportunity to play offense along with defense for Columbia next year.
