It’s camp season in Oklahoma and Prep Redzone Oklahoma is traveling all over the state to see some of the top teams and players that are going to making plenty of noise this fall. Be sure to check back on the website for various camp reports and follow us on Twitter @PrepRedzoneOK to see where we’re going next! In this post, we’re putting a spotlight on the Choctaw team camp. Who stood out, who emerged and much more! Check out our breakdown on standouts from Choctaw, Lawton Eisenhower, Putnam City West and Star Spencer!
Putnam City West 2024 athlete Aaron Edwards Aaron Edwards 6’3″ | ATH Putnam City West | 2024 State OK is the first prospect on our breakdown that simply looked the part. When we were watching on Wednesday, we saw Edwards primarily lining up at one of the cornerback positions. He definitely has the physical frame to play a few different positions at the next level and at a high level. Edwards has some athleticism to his game and the ceiling is very high moving forward. Now, everything on social media and on film from last year lists Edwards as a linebacker. That’s probably his natural position at the next level and also opens the door for more opportunities among colleges. Edwards was one of the more physically gifted prospects out there on Wednesday.
Choctaw 2024 safety Drake Fittro Drake Fittro 6’0″ | DB Choctaw | 2024 State OK was one of the emerging prospects from Wednesday evening’s camp. After asking around, we found out that Fittro has been a baseball-first athlete but joined the football team last year. And at this time last year, he was as raw as raw gets. But fast forward to this week and he’s one of the vocal leaders of the defense and specifically in the secondary. We think that Fittro could have a big senior season this fall and the opportunities to play college ball should come. There were several college staffs in attendance on Wednesday evening and they all asked about Fittro. He’s definitely a prospect within the state’s 2024 class that has to be listed as “on the rise” moving forward.
Another standout from Choctaw is 2025 athlete JuJu Smith JuJu Smith 5’8″ | ATH Choctaw | 2025 State OK but he’s not a new name. We’ve watched Smith terrorize opponents for over a year now. First, it was during the offseason 7v7 tournaments. And then he enjoyed a breakout season last fall as a sophomore. Now, he has the potential to be one of the more versatile game-changing athletes in 6A-2 this fall. On offense, he provides Choctaw with a player that can make plays in the running and passing game. On defense, he lines up at safety and has the closing speed to get from point A to point B in the blink of an eye. Smith is definitely a prospect that is already having a strong offseason and spring and that should only continue this fall as the Yellowjackets look to contend again in 6A-2.
2024 defensive standout Kingston Tito Kingston Tito 6’2″ | 230 lbs | LB Lawton Eisenhower | 2024 State OK was the first of two prospects from Lawton Eisenhower that absolutely shined on Wednesday. Tito was simply a terror along the line of scrimmage. We were able to check him out during one of the mini game portions of the camp and it was really impressive to watch his eyes specifically when he’s engaging with an offensive lineman. He always keeps them in the backfield and knows where the play is going and when is the right time to shed the blocker. Those little details, combined with his physical stature makes him a big name to know moving forward in the 2024 class. Colleges aren’t wasting time as Tito has picked up several offers this week, including an offer from UCO, who was at the camp Wednesday.
There’s no question that Star Spencer 2025 wide receiver Lehmantre Olds Lehmantre Olds 6’3″ | 190 lbs | WR Star Spencer | 2025 State OK was the breakout star of Wednesday’s camp. Olds was the first player that we saw make a huge play and we weren’t even in the complex yet. He beat his man in a 1 on 1 situation on a go route and made the touchdown catch look easy as we walked in the gate. That eye-catching play only continued throughout the evening as the go route became his speciality as time after time he would beat his man and go make a play on the ball. And as mentioned earlier, there were quite a few college staffs in attendance so he’s now on plenty of radars moving forward. We’re already looking forward to diving into his film to see how much it backs up what we saw in person Wednesday.
Highlights
It’s just our opinion but Lawton Eisenhower 2025 running back Rashaud Hurt Rashaud Hurt 6’1″ | RB Lawton Eisenhower | 2025 State OK was the top traditional running back in attendance on Wednesday. There were a few other teams that had athletes that would get looks but in terms of a traditional workhorse back, Hurt was that guy and he showed it time after time. Especially when the camp broke into mini games where the Lawton Ike offensive game plan was simple. Give the ball to Hurt and get out of the way. We watched him break arm tackles time after time like it was nothing before making big play after big play. This was our first time seeing Hurt in person with the pads on and he lived up to the hype. The 2025 product has a very bright future and this could be a special fall for him.
Wednesday was our first chance to really see Choctaw 2024 defensive standout Tae Bulock Tae Bulock 6’3″ | LB Choctaw | 2024 State OK in person with the pads on. First off, he immediately passed the eye test and looks the part as one of the better athletes in attendance. Then, we saw him make play after play from his outside linebacker position. Coming into the camp, we knew Bulock more as a defensive back but similar to Edwards at Putnam City West, Bulock definitely has the physical attribute to move inside and be more of a linebacker. And because he has the defensive back background, he has the potential to be one of the more athletic linebackers that can absolutely move. he was impressive to watch and is another name who’s stock is only going up this summer.
Choctaw 2024 standout Will Smith Will Smith 6’4″ | 240 lbs | DL Choctaw | 2024 State OK is very clearly near the top of any list when it comes to athletes within the state’s 2024 class. The Oklahoma State commit showed why throughout the evening on Wednesday why that is. As a defensive end, Smith commanded double teams by opponents, otherwise, he was going to be able to cause havoc throughout the backfield. On offense, Smith is going to give the Choctaw offense a big and athletic target to use within the passing game. He made one play in particular on a batted ball up in the air where he simply out jumped everyone to go get the ball. Smith is going to be a red zone nightmare on offense and a problem for opposing offensive lines when he’s on defense.
