Archbishop Shaw enjoyed an impressive resurgence this fall in legendary coach Hank Tierney's return to the west bank and now has state-title aspirations in its immediate crosshairs.

The Eagles finished the regular season 8-2 — their first winning record since 2009 — to earn the No. 7 seed in the Division-II Select bracket and won their first playoff game since 2013 to reach the quarterfinals.

And a heavily senior-led and talented defense returning is helping lead the high-level optimism to potentially reach a championship game for the first time since 2008.

Archbishop Shaw garnered an early stop on Prep Redzone Louisiana's spring practice tours and a series of "Spring 3-2-1" spotlights looking at three key returning standouts, two notable breakout candidates and one underclassman to know sooner than later.

3 WELL-KNOWN RETURNERS

[player_tooltip player_id='678290' first='Jayden' last='Scott'] — 6-4, 240 DL — Archbishop Shaw (2024)

Scott's recruitment kicked off this spring with offers from Texas Tech, Louisiana (Lafayette), Georgia Tech, Tulane, Southern Miss, Troy, Louisville and Louisiana Tech. But the Eagles' playmaking defensive end and vocal leader still feels like one of the state's more underrated rising seniors with a huge summer ahead — including TCU, Auburn, Missouri and Mississippi State ramping up interest. Scott has good size, explosiveness and violent hands, plays with a high motor and is carries himself with maturity and work ethic that stand out notably at his age. He and fellow rising seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1203306' first='Kilas' last='Francis'] and Trevor Whitted help lead a strong group overall up front.

[player_tooltip player_id='678299' first='Jordan' last='Evans'] — 5-10, 170 DB — Archbishop Shaw (2024)

and [player_tooltip player_id='678291' first='Louis' last='Foster Jr.'] — 6-0, 180 DB — Archbishop Shaw (2024)

The Eagles' underrated, veteran safety duo at the back end of the defense headlines a solid secondary with fellow seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1211830' first='Dallas' last='Borne'] and Kardell Allen on the outside at the corners. Evans racked up 75 tackles, six pass breakups and a pair of interception this fall, and Foster finished the season with 51 tackles, including five for loss, and seven breakups. Marshall, Arkansas State, Howard and Southeastern Louisiana have all taken notice of Foster's athleticism and hard-hitting physicality with offers this spring, and he could be another interesting prospect to watch for his recruitment to potentially hit another gear in the coming months.

[player_tooltip player_id='677951' first='Raymond' last='Howard'] — 6-3, 275 OL — Archbishop Shaw (2024)

Southeastern Louisiana, Nicholls State, Air Force, Arkansas State, Cornell and Navy have become the first colleges to extend offers to the Eagles' left tackle, a potentially versatile lineman at the next level who plays with a high motor and violence as he drives opposing defenders well out of the play through the whistle and shows good laterally quickness pulling to help spring runs to the opposite side.

2 BREAKOUT CANDIDATES

[player_tooltip player_id='912251' first='Sheldon' last='Green'] — 6-3, 200 LB/DL — Archbishop Shaw (2025)

The multisport standout is one of the most underrated rising juniors in the state to monitor for a recruiting blow-up this summer. Also a state title-qualifying long-jumper, Green has a tall, long frame and impressive quickness and athleticism to consistently explode off the edge and into opposing backfields.

[player_tooltip player_id='913900' first='Jasper' last='Parker'] — 6-1, 185 RB — Archbishop Shaw (2025)

The Eagles figure to have an old-school look of a focus on an efficient rushing attack on offense to complement a stingy defense that should be among the best in the New Orleans area. And Parker, a transfer from Jesuit across the river, looks poised to be a notable breakout candidate in that effort as a big, physical back with multisport athleticism and enough speed to create some problems when he gets to the second level or the outside.

1 UNDERCLASSMAN TO KNOW

J'Quan Carter — 5-10, 170 DB — Archbishop Shaw (2026)

and [player_tooltip player_id='934561' first='Rontrae' last='Carter'] — 5-11, 165 DB — Archbishop Shaw (2027)

The young Carter cousins have already been working as a ninth- and eighth-grader with the aforementioned talented varsity standouts and holding their own as hybrid linebacker/safety athletes. They pair a nice combination of confidence in their skill, willingness to get physical and aggressive with older teammates and opponents and a humility to listen to and learn from Scott, Foster, Evans and company on the roster and coach Hank Tierney and company on the staff.
