The first word that comes to my mind when watching Marshall Kmiecik is “playmaker”. He has the ability, and will take advantage of it, to beat you through the air and on the ground. That is explained in New Prairie’s run to the state final this year, ultimately falling to East Central. The scheme Kmiecik plays in isn’t exactly pass heavy but when given the opportunity, he excels, averaging 21 yards per completion and throwing 16 touchdown passes compared to 5 interceptions. Kmiecik possesses the ability to move around in the pocket and extend plays, all while keeping his eyes down field. If he doesn’t like what he sees, he’s not afraid to tuck it and run. In fact, in 2022, Kmiecik threw for 1,356 yards and added 1,383 yards on the ground. Between his plus arm and knack to find positive yardage every play, Kmiecik is primed for an incredible senior season. After taking down a few school records last year, we could see him break more in 2023.
Highlights
Zander Brazel of East Noble is a quarterback that thrives under pressure, literally. He displays an above average ability to move around the pocket and make throws under duress. When facing the need to escape and make plays outside the pocket, Brazel puts his elusiveness on display. However, don’t think of him as one to leave the pocket too soon. Brazel isn’t afraid to stay in the pocket, reset his feet, and fire a dart to his target. He’s a passer first but will find opportunities to make plays on the ground, if needed. He did average about one touchdown per interception last season but another year of experience under his belt and a determined offseason will reap positive results in 2023. His quick decision making and athletic ability puts him in a position to make noise this year.
Quarterbacking runs in the Fisher family. After taking over for his brother last season at quarterback for the Mishawaka Cavemen, Brady Fisher Brady Fisher 6’3″ | 200 lbs | QB Mishawaka | 2024 State IN displayed his multi-sport athleticism. In a scheme where having a good runner at QB is vital, Fisher showed why he is the right man for the job. In the run game, he has the right blend of agility and brute force. When he needs to pass, spectators will see just how strong of an arm Fisher has. Not only does his arm strength stick out, but his ability to place the ball where he needs to give his his receiver a chance is something Fisher excels at. Look for Brady Fisher Brady Fisher 6’3″ | 200 lbs | QB Mishawaka | 2024 State IN to build on his incredible junior season and continue to shine bright under the lights this fall.
When watching Owen Smith Owen Smith 6’1″ | 175 lbs | QB McCutcheon | 2024 State IN , it’s easy to see the great arm talent that he possesses. He can put just the right touch on every one of his throws, short or deep. On top knowing how to control the velocity, he can sling it with accuracy to make sure his receiver has the best chance to come down with the ball. He does the simple things right. You won’t see him miss very many open receivers. I like his ability to feel the pocket around him and how he navigates it. It allows him to extend plays when the pocket does collapse. He threw for nearly 1,500 yards last season with 13 touchdowns and 5 interceptions and he has the traits to write a chapter in his career next season that will be unforgettable.
