Dixon was anointed MVP of the game as the only player to score more than once. He announced himself with the game’s second touchdown from about 45 yards out and then ducked and dodged his way to a short one later on. Both runs showcased his excellent vision and agility, where he stays north and south while turning to gain lateral leverage on defenders. He hits a crease quickly on the first one, stepping out of an ankle tackle and carrying two defenders over the goal line. The second one sees him wrapped up near the line before bursting through another several yards with a defender holding onto his jersey. This short run from later in the drive shows his vision as he reads the blocks well and nearly gets in. IMG_5457
Highlights
Woods is a new revelation as one of the top receivers in the state who I wasn’t familiar with previously. He returned a punt for a 45 yard touchdown and laid the hurt on a lengthy Hawaii defender as he descended on the end zone.IMG_5389rn
You can see his lateral ability flash as he finds a good angle within moments of catching the ball to beat the defense to the outside. He owns the gamebreaking speed and quickness to take the crease but invites contact at the end and punishes the high tackler. He’s quickly rising through the rankings and could be in the best overall WR conversation entering his Senior year.
Brown is the top prospect in the state and I was eager to lay eyes on him the first time. I came away in awe- not only of his athletic traits but the personality he carried them with. He’s eager and positive on offense, picking his team up as they block for him; and plays incredibly hard even though he’s the best athlete on the field. He’s got as impressive of a 5’10” body type as you’ll find, with thighs like tree trunks and carrying 205 lbs on the frame with ridiculous bounce and overall adeptness. He wasn’t put on ice after the first half, either- he was giddy and brought the energy from the sideline to the field, gathering each kickoff huddle with energy and making special teams look like a blast. After seeing him hit once, his durability becomes more of an exclamation point than a question. Brown’s infectious personality could impact a team nearly as much as his astounding athleticism.
Caminong is a well-known gunslinger with plenty of D1 offers who I hadn’t evaluated on tape but several of my colleagues have. I knew he profiled as the clear favorite to be the top QB prospect in Washington but played with a great supporting cast at Garfield. In person, I noticed how his decision-making adds to his explosiveness, and his arm talent lives up to the hype. I grabbed a decent angle of the ball sailing out of his hand, and you can see him setting up with a great angle to make this back-shoulder lob. Caminong also showed off his mobility by taking off for a 45 yard rushing touchdown early in the 2nd quarter as well. The package of arm talent, explosion, athleticism and pocket presence prove Caminong’s status as the top 2024 QB.Caminong back shoulder lob
Slater is a 2024 tackle who I wasn’t familiar with but am very impressed. He has a great get off that made him stand out and his footwork is eye-catchingly smooth. He moves extremely well laterally, and has ideal balance that makes him consistent in both the pass and run game. He’s quick to his assignments and has good leverage, taking on half a man and at good angles. He can be seen on Dixon’s short run firing off quick to a textbook double-team with JoJo Matautia and his lateral movement is showcased on EJ’s throw as he protects the pocket. Slater is another name to watch out for in a deep OL class with his rare agility.
