Continue ReadingBrody Boness Brody Boness 5’11” | 205 lbs | ATH Lind-Ritzville | 2025 State WA is a freakishly strong and athletic sophomore. At 5’11” and 200 lbs, most will see jaw-dropping lifting and running numbers displayed on his Twitter and Hudl bios for a sophomore; but he looks to be as tough and quick as those numbers could suggest. While he’s a raw prospect, he’s annihilating competition for Lind-Ritzville in the Northeast 2B league with his speed and strength. He’s a violent runner with breakaway speed that invites contact, uses his gifts with good leverage, and breaks tackles. I’m incredibly curious to see what colleges will be first to contact the small-school powerhouse, and how he would fare at a junior day or showcase on a bigger stage. Boness is a big sleeper in the 2025 class and has eye-catching traits among a vast pool of talent.
Preston Mulanax
Preston Mulanax
Preston Mulanax is a special kid. His 5’8” frame can handle a ridiculous load of lateral movement as he has one of the best turn and jumpcut moves I’ve seen. His speed is very good as well, where he runs track and plays basketball for Waterville as well. His overall athleticism and coordination allow him to dominate the Central Washington 1B League, which plays 8-man football as the teams usually have between 10-20 kids; but he won DPOY as a Junior and produced some attention grabbing film regardless. Minot State and Montana Western are the first colleges to make an impression on him as he’s announced an invite to MSU’s Spring Game this weekend and UMW’s Junior Days in the coming months. Mulanax is one of many diamonds in the rough of Washington’s lesser-acknowledged leagues. He’s a high-upside prospect who will be fascinating to see attending Junior Days and visits. He’s too good at RB, DB and Punt/Kick Returner to project where he’ll be scouted for collegiate purposes yet, but will be one of my top names to look for in 1B as a senior.
Chris Gustafson Chris Gustafson 6’3″ | 235 lbs | RB Friday Harbor | 2024 State WA is a huge north-south back who punishes defenses. Just based on his 6’3” 235 lb build, his 29.4 BMI (Body Mass Index) indicates him meeting even NFL scouts’ standards of required size to be an every-down back. He fares pretty well for Friday Harbor, who need not worry about gaining consistent yards on the ground. He also has an excellent center-of-gravity that lets him lay hurt on defenders with leverage instead of just pure size, anfd he generates plenty of power in spite of his decent speed. He isn’t as shifty or quick as other skill players but his package of power is so consistent that he doesn’t need it to dominate in the right offensive setup. Gustafson is as big of a between the tackles runner as I’ve seen recently and should be an amazing fit for a college coach who wants to play old school smash mouth football.
Jacob Tracy Jacob Tracy 6’6″ | 245 lbs | TE Yelm | 2025 State WA is a giant TE with plenty of room to grow into his massive potential. He has good hands and an improving get-off to go with good footwork for a big man, making him a road-grating blocker. He can drive lower players into the ground by taking a good angle and getting his frame into impressive positions. These traits give him exciting potential as a pass-catcher, and the sky is truly the limit for him as a vertical threat whose route running and ball skills have plenty of promise. While comparisons aren’t usually authentic, it’s hard not to be reminded of soon to be first round NFL draft pick Darnell Washington from Georgia. With similar size, Washington’s value lies in a similarly coveted blocking ability that TEs usually don’t specialize in. Tracy should be a big-time prospect for this alone.
Darian Harper Darian Harper 6’1″ | 195 lbs | QB River Ridge | 2025 State WA is an accurate passer with big-time athleticism. He earned the starting job for Timberline as a sophomore and shows tons of promise on tape. He throws great lobs at least 40 yards down field and can zip bullets to the midle and boundaries. He’s a great improviser and shows trustworthy decision making skills for a young signal caller, knowing when to stay in the pocket, roll out, get the ball out and use his wheels. His progressions don’t seem forced and he could grow into a true field general as a junior this year. Harper is a high-upside dual-threat QB who I’ll have my eye on.
