Getting back at it with the Border Battle Teams. I decided the best way to split the skills position for both ND and SD was to do a 7-on-7 type lineup. For offense I decided that putting a starter and a backup would work well to maximize the exposure for the top athletes in the State. Defensively, I put the back Seven in a 4-3 defense (3 LB's & 4 DB's). This article may also reveal some teams that could have a big year in 2023. Down below is the South Dakota Skill Players in the Dakotas Border Battle!

SD Lineup

Offense

QB- Both these guys have mobility, pocket presence, arm strength and accuracy. Add some poise and good decisions with their passes. Lastly I like their patience for their routes to develop, and the mobility to keep plays alive until their receivers get open.

[player_tooltip player_id='174189' first='Tate' last='Schafer'], Sioux Falls Lincoln, Highlights

[player_tooltip player_id='289606' first='Jack' last='Thue'], Brandon Valley, Highlights

RB- Speed is always a big thing at this position. The thing that gets a RB over the top is adding some physicality with their speed. Even if he defense catches them, it will be a battle to bring them down. With both those attributes, these two also have the vision and patience to find the open gap and wait for blocks to develop to gain yardage. Lastly, they both show a good deal of agility to make good, quick cuts in the cutback lanes.

[player_tooltip player_id='289604' first='Dreavin' last='Hodge'], Sioux Falls Lincoln, Highlights

WR- This is the most revolutionized position in the game, and the athletes keep getting better. This group of athletes each have great route running ability and speed to get themselves open each and every play. Most importantly, they all have amazing sets of hands. Their 'it' factors are their concentration in traffic and verticals to out jump the defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='237982' first='Jack' last='Smith'], Sioux Falls Lincoln, Highlights

[player_tooltip player_id='305547' first='Cade' last='Kaiser'], Pierre, Highlights

TE- This is a wildcard position where if you have a good one, it changes the whole style of play. Both of these guys are good blockers that add another lineman type athlete to the line of scrimmage. The wildcard factor is that they are also receiver type athletes with all the same attributes as the wide receivers.

[player_tooltip player_id='289598' first='Jett' last='Zabel'], Pierre, Highlights,

[player_tooltip player_id='533112' first='Carson' last='Griffith'], Elkton- Lake Benton, Highlights

Defense

LB- These guys can be your hybrid type athletes, particularly in this era of football. These guys are all those athletes, good tacklers, but nimble enough to go out in pass coverage as well. They all read their keys well and get to their position to be most effective on that given play. Their physicality also plays big for when the plug run gaps.

[player_tooltip player_id='294166' first='Kade' last='Van Egdom'], Sioux Falls Christian Highlights,

[player_tooltip player_id='623170' first='Samuel' last='Just'], Harrisburg, Highlights

DB- All these guys have speed, agility and length to be very affective in pass defense. They each do a great job sticking in the hip pocket of the receiver and timing passes perfect to make plays on the ball. Lastly, they each have the physicality to do well in press coverage, but also make tackles in run support.

[player_tooltip player_id='289643' first='Henry' last='Theobald'], O'Gorman, Highlights.

[player_tooltip player_id='675273' first='Jaxson' last='Wolbrink'], Harrisburg, Highlights

ATH- This is a group of guys I couldn't place at one position, on each side of the ball. Each of these players get moved around in their teams' schemes to get them in position to make plays. These guys have all the tools on both offense and defense, even special teams as well. Speed, agility, muscle, etc. these guys make plays for their teams and can fill many positions on this particular team.
