The 5th Annual 8th Grade Bowl Game set in Delaware was played in Smyrna High School football stadium, this past Friday, April 14th at 7:00pm. This game was full of gang tackling, forced screen plays, QB pressures, downfield jump ball shots, false starts, and a handful of trick plays. All the scoring action only took place in the fist quarter, but there was some highlighted catches and big tackle breaking first down runs throughout the four quarters. Though a low scoring 8-7 game, I wouldn't say the defenses were so good that each offense could not move the ball. As always, it's completely apparent when watching an All-Star game that only practices a couple of times, and the expectations are set high just because everyone had success individually. Something as simple as repetition and chemistry become your achilles heel. The coaches did a good job mixing up the schemes and there were 8 players that I felt really performed.

Top Performers Notes

#13 [player_tooltip player_id='769742' first='DeCarlo' last='Rogers'] | WR | White Team

- big touchdown catch, first score of the game

-secured some catches toward the sidelines to keep the chains moving

#9 [player_tooltip player_id='521794' first='Brandon' last='Wills-Dickson'] | DE/RB | Black Team

-secured the games Defensive MVP award

-contsant pressure off the QB

-made big tackles all around the field

-Ran the ball physically averaging at least 4-5 yds.

#26 [player_tooltip player_id='769900' first='Taj' last='Boaten'] | DB | White Team

-came up with a big interception in the red zone

-broke up multiple throws to his side

#5 Zion Goldsborough | WR/DB | Black Team

-named the Offensive MVP

-caught a highlight 51 yard screen pass for a touchdown and fought for extra yardage after every catch

-also had some open field tackles on the opposite side of the ball

#8 [player_tooltip player_id='553199' first='Dwan' last='Harris Jr.'] | QB | White Team

-TD throw to Rogers for the first score of the game

-flushed out the pocket for some nice touch passes on the run that kept the ball moving

#45 [player_tooltip player_id='666722' first='K'Marion' last='Hall'] | DE | White Team

-biggest hit of the game

-3 huge TFL's

#69 [player_tooltip player_id='772481' first='Luke' last='Lloyd'] | C | Black Team

-protected the ball with consistent snaps all game

-controlled the A gaps most of game and created lanes for RBs to get to the next level

#7 Micah Johnson | DE | Black Team

-Lineman MVP

-recorded a sack and countless speed rushes that rushed the ball out

-kept contain and no big outside runs
