Continue ReadingArguably the best competitor at the camp, JonJon Morales Jr JonJon Morales Jr 5’9″ | 160 lbs | ATH Berlin | 2025 State NewE . showed up and showed out and proved he should be placed higher on the rankings, despite his already impressive top-150 placement. The Kent School athlete put on a full showcase of his abilities in front of coaches and scouts alike.
Only four DBs showed up to this camp, the smallest number we’ve hosted in any camp in over three years. I won’t hesitate to say this was one of the best DB groups I had a chance to witness at any camp I’ve been a part of. Morales spearheaded this notion. I could have easily gone with either one of these DBs for position MVP, yet Morales came away with it because of his work at WR late in the camp. Morales won reps at WR while dominating for 2+ hours at DB.
Impressive in individuals with our college coaches, Morales showed attention to detail, provided energy in a group consisting of just four prospects. Vocal and active, Morales turned the camp up and made it his playground during 1-on-1s. The sophomore checked off the most boxes. Can turn and run with any and all speed at the event. Slight frame, yet one of the more physical prospects from snap to whistle. Physical when attempting to jam, didn’t give up leverage without a fight. Great hand-eye coordination, great ball-tracking ability when being targeted vertically. Annoying, pesky in areas many young wideouts weren’t expecting. No route was stemmed freely. Quick hips and active feet/hands combatted some of the quicker matchups, he’s got the same twitch to keep up with speedy slot targets.
Morales showed off why we listed him as an “ATH” converting back to WR later in the camp and getting free against some of these outstanding DBs. Special performance.
Highlights
Again, as stated in Morales’ evaluation, I could have picked any of these DBs to win MVP of their group. Martin Alisandro Martin Alisandro 6’2″ | 180 lbs | DB Proctor Academy | 2025 State NewE ‘s performance would have stood out regardless of how many DBs showed up. Alisandro caught my eye during the combine portion of our event. He didn’t necessarily blow any of us away with a time, yet his stride for his size, playing DB had me excited to see what he was about during Indi’s and 1-on-1’s. Beautiful gait that, when worked on, could land him serious interest at the next level, we all know how much CCs love big, long-limbed DBs. That’s what you get with Alisandro. Love his indi work, rangy, wide radius, strong base, good back pedal, Alisandro proved to me that he should rank as a top 20 DB in his class at the very least.
We will see where he places in our next update. That being said, Alisandro came up with three interceptions during -on-1’s. Probably the strongest and most proficient LOS performance, Alisandro was poised, calm off the snap, and much too strong early in reps for most wideouts to wiggle around. If you’ve got superb speed, you can fly around Alisandro and try to test him deep. In-breaking routes, out-breaking routes, Int/short area routes, Alisandro ate up competition at these levels. Fun player to watch, happy he saw success at this camp.
Highlights
A relatively new name to me, one that has to end up on the 2025 rankings sooner rather than later. He will surely make the next update based purely on his performance at this camp.
Lucas Guay Lucas Guay 5’11” | 175 lbs | LB Westfiled H.S. Ma. | 2025 State NewE would have taken the MVP award home had Morales not participate at WR and win at two different positions. That’s not to Guay’s detriment, as I imagine the young man could have done damage at the position if given the chance. I find out later in the day that Guay is more than likely a linebacker or running back at this current stage in his HS career. That makes sense considering how physical Guay was off the snap. Where Guay differentiates from Alisandro, Guay won everywhere on the field. He ran with every prospect at the camp. Guay came down with some seriously impressive catches while elevating 30+ yards downfield. MVP was a toss-up between Guay and Morales, I could only give it one prospect, yet I will reflect his performance later via ranking. Excited about that opportunity.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Guay’s outstanding combine numbers. 4.69 40, 4.57 shuttle, 9’9″ broad. These are elite numbers on par with some fantastic talent I see down in PA camps.
Juan Reynolds Juan Reynolds 6’1″ | 170 lbs | ATH Doherty Memorial | 2024 State NewE also achieved an outstanding overall combine score. He had a complete camp performance that also had me thinking if he should have been the MVP of his position. Juan Reynolds Juan Reynolds 6’1″ | 170 lbs | ATH Doherty Memorial | 2024 State NewE just didn’t make as many plays as some of these other kids, again, still numerous PBU’s enforced. Reynolds posted a whopping 9’9.5″ broad that bested the DB group, along with a respectable 4.62 shuttle and 4.97 40.
Juan Reynolds Juan Reynolds 6’1″ | 170 lbs | ATH Doherty Memorial | 2024 State NewE ‘ top-400 ranking is a modest one looking back, I can’t imagine that 69 other DBs are undoubtedly better than this young man after watching him work. After watching him work, I’m excited to reflect my new views and grade. Reynolds is also a legitimate six-foot prospect. Excited to see more out of this young man moving forward.
