The DR7 7v7 tournament circuit made its way through Oklahoma over the weekend and stopped in at Broken Arrow and Prep Redzone was there from start to finish. Throughout the week, we’ll be putting a spotlight on some of the best players that we caught for an extended period of time. In this post, we’re taking a look at the 18U “Blue” squad from Sooner 7 as they would fall to eventual champion Sooner 7 Green in the semifinals. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone for more spotlights, looking at some of the top players throughout the weekend in Broken Arrow.
Chandler quarterback Alec Jackson Alec Jackson 6’3″ | 200 lbs | QB Chandler | 2024 State OK is the first of two 2024 quarterbacks on the rise this offseason that suited up for Sooner 7’s “White” squad this weekend. Jackson is an outstanding athlete and that was clear earlier this year when he showcased that athleticism on the basketball floor. But Jackson is definitely a quarterback prospect that we’re keeping a close eye on. When it comes to the state’s 2024 class, the QB group seems deep but there’s also plenty of unknowns. For Jackson, the Chandler standout is having a good offseason and the 7v7 tournaments provide a perfect opportunity to watch Jackson strictly as a passer. We know what he can do athletically, Jackson has now shown that he has an absolute rocket launcher attached to his shoulder. That arm strength was on full display throughout the weekend.
Sapulpa 2024 quarterback Colton Howard Colton Howard 6’1″ | 195 lbs | QB Sapulpa | 2024 State OK is in a similar position to Jackson so it’s fitting that they were the quarterback duo for this Sooner 7 squad. Howard is another quarterback on the rise that has a ton of momentum going for him right now. It began last fall when he had an outstanding season for the Chieftains. He’s continued that throughout this offseason and has been one of the best quarterbacks that we’ve watched in the 7v7 setting. Howard has been outstanding over the last two months every time we’ve watched him in person. This past weekend, Howard’s accuracy was one thing that really stood out and it appears that as his play has continued to improve, his confidence has also skyrocketed. Howard certainly belongs in the conversation for top quarterbacks in the state’s 2024 class going into this spring and summer.
Jenks 2024 wide receiver and defensive back Conner Thompson Conner Thompson 6’0″ | 175 lbs | ATH Jenks | 2024 State OK continues to have an incredibly strong offseason. In January, Thompson was the wide receiver MVP at our camp. Last month, he was the 18U MVP at our 7v7 tournament and this weekend, he was the top offensive playmaker for Sooner 7’s White squad. Thompson picked up right where he left off a few weeks ago at our tournament as he made play after play. This squad was full of prospects that might be flying under the radar but should have big seasons this fall and Thompson is arguably at the top of the list. Thompson has a chance to be a breakout star this season and that should definitely open up some eyes. He’s proven that he’s a competitive playmaker and now we want to see what he does when the pads come on this spring and fall.

Dakota Chaney Dakota Chaney 5’10” | 170 lbs | ATH Sapulpa | 2025 State OK is another Sapulpa Chieftain to make this breakdown. After moving this offseason, Chaney is expected to be an instant impact player for the Chieftain offense this fall. With Howard at quarterback, Chaney should have plenty of familiarity right from the start. Chaney has spent time on both sides of the ball throughout the 7v7 season over the last few months. But it seems like he continues to shine brightest on the offensive side of the ball. Chaney was at his best this past weekend at wide receiver and made several big catches throughout the weekend. Chaney made most of his plays in the short passing game by running simple out routes with his quarterback rolling out. But he also made several catches in the end zone where he had to show off the athleticism and go up and get the ball.
Highlights
Another 7v7 tournament and another standout performance from 2024 wide receiver Deuce Chalk Deuce Chalk 6’2″ | 175 lbs | WR Owasso | 2024 State OK . We’ve covered four 7v7 tournaments so far this offseason and it feels like Chalk has gone four for four as a top performer in every single tournament that we’ve covered. Chalk is such a dynamic weapon on the offensive side of the ball and he was once again outstanding in big moments throughout the weekend. Touchdown after touchdown, Chalk was a points machine as he caught pass after pass in the end zone and did it in a variety of ways with various routes. Another thing that stood out was the rare times Chalk would go out on the defensive side of the ball and essentially be a “centerfielder” at the safety position and he made a few plays there as well as he tracked the ball incredibly well. Like Thompson, Chalk has had an outstanding offseason.
