Next up in this article is in running backs. What makes Pennsylvania so special is the depth of running backs in the state. In Pennsylvania, plenty of teams still run the ball a lot. Here is my list of 2024 underrated running back prospects.
Ethen Knox Ethen Knox 6'1" | 190 lbs | RB Oil City | 2024 State PA Oil City. Know plays in an old-school I offense and he was the featured running back in this offense for Oil City. What stands out from Knox’s film is how patient he is as a running back. Several times he was given tosses or long handoffs and Knox was patient and waited for the blocks to be set up and then finally hit the hole. Once he hits the hole this is where Knox is special. He just explodes through it and runs through tacklers. He is also deadly in the open field. Once he gets in the open field, he is gone. Knox is also very good in the passing game because he has good hands and runs good routes. Knox is someone with a big Senior year who should be recruited to play College Football.
Jayden Sumpter Jayden Sumpter 5'9" | 175 lbs | RB Springside-Chestnut Hill | 2024 State PA Springside-Chestnut Hill. Sumpter is the featured running back in a spread offense for Springside-Chestnut Hill. Sumpter’s film is special. He is constantly just making people miss and breaking tackles for long gains. The best part of his game that makes him special is his ability to just run through tacklers. Several times I saw him on film he would break through 3 or 4 tacklers in one single play. He is also very special when he gets into the open field. If the defensive gives him a seam Sumpter is gone. Sumpter is expected to have a good chance at playing College Football after his Senior year and recently visited Syracuse’s Junior Day.
Tucker Teats Tucker Teats 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Selinsgrove | 2024 State PA Selinsgrove. Tucker is an electric running back who is dynamic with the ball in his hands. He can make people miss very easily and take it to the end zone very well. Tucker was the featured running back in Selinsgrove’s I offense. Tucker is a very patient runner who once he hits the hole is off for the races. He is very difficult to tackle and bring down to the ground as well. He is a good athlete that is a very good kickoff and punt returner. Teats with a strong Senior year should have an opportunity to play College Football.

Luke Winterbottom Luke Winterbottom 6'0" | 195 lbs | RB Plymouth Whitemarsh | 2024 State PA Plymouth Whitemarsh. Winterbottom played in a spread wing-t offense at Plymouth Whitemarsh. He played wing or slot running back most of the time and he did not disappoint. They ran a ton of counters, toss sweeps and outside zone plays with him. He is very good at being patient, then hitting the hole and getting to the next level. The one area of his game that makes him special is his speed. He legit has track speed. Once he gets to the open field he is gone. Nobody can catch him. Because he played in the slot he also caught several passes. He has really good hands and with his speed, once he gets into the open field he is gone. Winterbottom is an intriguing prospect who should get serious College Football looks.
Amir Key Amir Key 5'8" | 185 lbs | RB Penn Hills | 2024 State PA Penn Hills. Amir Key Amir Key 5'8" | 185 lbs | RB Penn Hills | 2024 State PA was the featured running back in Penn Hills’ spread offense last year. Key is a physical running back who never goes down when the 1st defender tries to tackle him. Key is also very good at making people miss when he gets to the next level. He also has very good hands and catches the ball well out of the backfield. Key part of Key’s game is his physicality. He is like a bowling ball just knocking down defenders in his wake. The other part of his game is he has a sneaky quickness and when he gets into the open field he can run away from defenders. Key with a strong Senior year should get looks from College Football Coaches.

Caden Henritzy Caden Henritzy 6'1" | 210 lbs | RB Northampton | 2024 State PA Northhampton. Henritzy was the featured back in Hampton’s spread offense last year. He is a very patient runner. Several times on his film on an inside zone run I saw Henritzy find the seam and hit the hole the right way. He is tall running back standing 6’2″ so this enables him to have a big catch radius when the ball is thrown his way. Henritzy is also a very good running back at making people miss in the hole. Several times on film he makes a move or runs through a tackler. Finally, you can tell in the film he has very good hands and can catch the ball well. Henritzy should have some College Football offers if he has a strong Senior year and Henritzy has that potential going forward.
Salvatore Capria Salvatore Capria 5'7" | 180 lbs | RB Jim Thorpe | 2024 State PA Jim Thorpe. Capria was the leading running back for Jim Thorpe in their spread offense. Capria is an electric playmaker who is a touchdown waiting to happen every time he touches the ball. He plays a lot bigger than his size since he is listed as 5’7″. Capria’s film also showed him as a dynamic kick returner. The other part of Capria’s game is he is a physical runner that who cannot be tackled by one tackler. Finally, you give him a seam and Capria will make a big play in the run game. Capria’s film is electric; going forward, he should have a good chance to play College Football. He is the type of prospect whose game should only get better. I am excited to see his Senior year unfold. He recently got invited to attend Rutgers Junior Day.

Bryce Staretz Bryce Staretz 6'1" | 215 lbs | RB Cumberland Valley | 2024 State PA Cumberland Valley. Staretz was the primary ball carrier in Cumberland Valley’s spread offense. Staretz is an underrated prospect in the 2024 class. He is a a classic one-cut and get downfield running back. He is very physical and will just run through or around defenders. Staretz doesn’t have great speed, but it does not matter because in his film he is just a workhorse running back. He excels in running the ball between the tackles and does very well with a gap scheme. Staretz is a hidden gem in the 2024 class and I expect College Football Coaches would love to get their hands on this bruising running back.
