The combine consist of testing, official measurements, and on field evaluations by college evaluators. As the weekend started many of Idaho’s top prospects were in attendance and shined throughout the weekend especially in the on field drills. Here are the names of those players who really stood out:
Martinez is one of the top returning quarterbacks in the entire state of Idaho. The 2025 prospect is well known around the state for not only leading Meridian to a state title appearance this year but for his ability to make people miss in the pocket. If you talk to anyone around the state that has either coached against, played or watched Martinez the thing that really pops off the tape is his elusiveness. He has this unique ability to get out of trouble in a way that a player like Russell Wilson is always able to make people miss with his legs. One of the most natural deep ball throwers of the football we have seen. Martinez has a way of completing the ball over the top with great timing and touch. Is a threat on the ground as well not just making people miss in the pocket but is a tough runner that is not afraid of contact and gets tough yards on the ground. Does a good job of extending plays when things break down and you can see that he is improving in those second level intermediate throws. Over the weekend Martinez showed smooth footwork and good ball control while showing off that athleticism. Should be primed for a huge junior year.
Starkel is a put together offensive lineman coming in around 6’2 and 270 lbs. An interior mauler that has quick feet that allows him to get a step on players who are smaller than him and helps him with players who may have size or strength. Has a natural tenacity about him that shows up on film with a high football IQ. You can see that he is able to really communicate across the offensive line and uses great angles in the run game. Has a strong interior punch that allows him to knock back bigger defenders and absolutely destroy smaller ones. Really runs his feet on contact with the ability to get to the second level and pull with efficiency. Has the ability to anchor in the pass game against defensive tackles and stop them at the line of scrimmage. Doesn’t get beat often in the interior. Should be ready to go for a big senior year with on of the top teams in the entire state.
Monk is one of the most impressive sophomores in the state getting ready for a big junior season. Measuring in at a confirmed 6’1” 270 lbs the sophomore had a big weekend in Las Vegas. Showing the ability to really move in space through the bag drills and also did a good job in his one on one battles. Watching his sophomore tape you can see why he is considered one of the top offensive lineman in his class. Nasty is the best way to describe him as he is consistently putting defenders on their back. Run his feet on contact while leads to a lot of pancakes with a strong strike and a solid lower half. Can see the strength that he possesses in the way he is able to road grade defenders in the run game. Really solid in pass pro with the ability to anchor against pass rushers and has a counter for pass rushers. Should really have a dominant junior year!
