Sometimes it can be level of competition, sometimes it can be a lack of exposure, sometimes it’s because they don’t fit the typical mold of what coaches expect in a player. Today, I’ll be highlighting 5 players who don’t have D1 offers, but I believe have the talent and upside to play division 1 football. I’ll break down their game and project what level I could see them playing at. Here we go!

(West Holmes) 6’2 180- Maltarich is a true deep threat with legitimate 4.5 speed. While Maltarich has gotten some D1 interest he hasn’t yet landed an offer. Some of that is probably due to him being a small school athlete. Make no mistake about it, Maltarich, is really good. He gets easy separation in working the field vertically and in the underneath routes. He’s a high-level route runner who frequently gets defenders turned around with his fakes as he sets up his routes. He is able to win free releases with good footwork or he can simply run past defenders if the defense doesn’t respect his deep speed. Kyle tracks the deep ball well and makes adjustments to make the catch. His speed is also utilized on bubble screens and on end arounds. With a good camp season, I think he should start to pull D1 and possibly P5 offers.

(Lima Senior) 6’4 180- Xavier is a long smooth athlete. He’s a little rawer in his route running but using his plus athleticism and length he’s able to make plays. He made plays in many different ways for the Spartans. In addition to his touchdown receptions, he also scored on interception returns and punt returns. When on offense he was also lined up in the backfield and asked to just make people miss and get yards. He has top end body control and balls skills as evidenced a few of the highlight reel catches he’s made. In the open field he’s sudden and elusive. Garner needs to continue to refine his route running and add weight and strength. With some strong camps I think Garner could begin to garner D1 FCS or G5 interest.

Marquise Hall

(Padua Franciscan) 5’11 175- Marquise is a dynamic playmaker on both sides of the football for the Bruins . On offense he lines up at both running back and receiver. As a running back he has explosive acceleration and the vision to see the holes as they open. Marquise also lines up in the slot where he shows great route running skill and ability to separate. Offensively, I think Marquise projects to the slot at the college level. He’s an elite playmaker who is a threat to take it to the house any time he touches the ball. On defense he plays safety. He plays fast and he plays physical. In the run game he plays with good pad level and explodes through ball carriers. He has the speed and athleticism to cover and play in space. With great timing and acceleration, he’s a phenomenal blitzer who gets home. I’m convinced that Hall has P5 potential on both sides of the football. He’s a true ATH1!

Toto Luani

(Milford) 6’1 195- Luani is a physical strong safety with a nose for the football. He has a thick frame and the strength to take on blockers. He’s a strong open field tackler who does a great job of attacking the football and causing turnovers. He’s fast in his read-react and fires quickly to make plays at or behind the line of scrimmage. While I do believe Toto is a natural strong safety, he has the feet and hips to turn and run with receivers and the ball skills to make plays in the pass game. Coaches will love his versatility and ability to move him around as a chess piece. Because of his versatility and combo of size and athleticism, Luani is a player that I could really see exploding onto the D1 and potentially P5 scene this offseason.

Dublin Jerome | 2024

(Dublin Jerome) 6’2 180- Ephrim is long and athletic defensive back. While he played cornerback for the Celtics, I project him to the free safety position at the college level. I think he’s more confident and plays faster from behind the play, which is why I’m projecting him to the safety position. College coaches are going to love his length. He takes good angles to the ball and does a good job of playing the ball rather than the man. He’s a willing tackler in the run game. He has the frame to add weight and strength that will make him more of a physical presence. With continued technique and physical development, I think Ephrim has D1 FCS potential.
