I’ve gotten a chance to see some extremely talented Public League players over the last few years. One player that sticks out in my mind was Aaron Warren from Morgan Park; to this day, I stand firm that he was without a doubt one of the most talented prospects I’ve seen while covering high school football in the ILL state.
So without further ado, let’s get to know five quarterbacks from Chicago’s Public League who I think will light it up this 2023 season…
Askia Bullie | Westinghouse ’24
Bullie is without a doubt a Public League prospect you’re going to want to keep an eye on this upcoming season. He wrapped up a solid junior season where he threw for 1,731 yards and rushed for 503 yards along with a total of 24 touchdowns. Flashes the quicks and instincts to wiggle around defenders and has pretty decent ball placement when targeting receivers. Bullie also does a good job of extending plays with his feet but also keeping his eyes downfield in case his receivers pop open while he’s scrambling.
Marcus Thaxton Marcus Thaxton 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB Morgan Park | 2025 State IL | Morgan Park ’25
Thaxton flashes great mobility as a scrambler and is more than capable of using his legs to consistently move the chains. But you don’t have to use your legs as much with the arm talent Thaxton possesses. Flashes great touch which allows him to be deadly accurate in all three levels of the passing attack. Good anticipation enables him to throw his receivers open and complete passes in tight windows. His arm talent is the best I’ve seen in the Public League in recent years–big time prospect Loading….
NaCari McFarland Kenwood ’24
Mcfarland’s upside is through roof and it’s going to be a sight to see when he takes the field this season as a Kenwood Bronco. He has a wiry frame at 6’6″ that he should be able to fill into in the coming years. Last time I seen him in person was at a Rise & Fire Camp and he was impressive to say the least. Kenwood has a well-coached program so I’m almost positive that McFarland will hit the ground running once his senior year kicks off.
Keshaun Parker | Simeon ’24
Parker finished his first season as a varsity starter with a 12-1 record and 1,971 all-purpose yards along with 21 touchdowns. He’s a nimble runner who can make something out of nothing when the play breaks down. Does a good job of getting the ball into the hands of his playmakers and is adept at throwing on the run.
Jospeh Winslow Jr. | Phillips ’24
Phillips appears to have a simple, yet affective passing philosophy of getting the ball out quick and which requires the quarterback to make quick decisions. Winslow Jr. excels in doing both and has some nice zip on his passes but can also make defenses pay with his mobility if the play breaks down.
