The position is no longer one-dimensional, and neither are the players. Here’s a look at the Running Backs that made a splash.
As the running back MVP, Brock is one of many gems to come out of this camp. Coming in at 5’9 and 168lbs, Brock Heilmann Brock Heilmann 5’10” | 175 lbs | RB Coweta | 2027 State OK is growing into a frame to be one of the most well put together backs in this class. With a staggering 4.77 40-Yard dash time and an explosive 4.54 shuttle time, Brock has the speed and cutting ability to make moves on the football field. Everything that I saw from Brock at camp proved that he’s a kid that do just about anything as a running back and at an elite level. Brock is one of those backs with unreal breakaway speed and burst and can do it in a short amount of time. Brock has a huge future ahead of him and is going to stack more accolades on top of his Camp MVP in the near future.

The next running back coming out of this stacked group was Taylen Strange Taylen Strange 5’7″ | 185 lbs | RB Forney | 2028 TX . Coming in at 5’5 and 178 pounds, Taylen is an athlete who will pack a punch when he has the ball in his hand and has no problem breaking ankles in the process. With impressive testing numbers, Taylen caught my attention during the camp and impressed me with his speed and footwork. However, none of this should come by surprise as he has competed at a high level in several All-Star games as a representative for Texas in the 8th Grade US Army Bowl. As fast and as explosive as he is, there is no telling what Taylen can do on the football field, and I would expect him to have many more explosive performances throughout his career. Taylen has tremendous upside, and could possibly be one of the top backs in the state when it is all said and done.
Erick “DJ” Reese is another running back to mention coming out of this Prep Next South Camp. Erick is two-sport athlete who competes at a high level in football as well as basketball. As a Strike Middle School product, Erick is another camp standout that showed out in this group and competed with some of the best in this class. Standing at 5’9, Erick has already begun to show spurts of ability similar to some big name NFL stars with his speed and agili. With Erick trending towards the top-half of the camps 40 and shuttle times, he is already proving that he is going to be one of the more explosive athletes in this class. The most exciting thing about his potential is that this camp is not the only time that Eric has shined, he has also had the chance to compete in the Under Armor Next All-American bowl and put up some impressive stats and turned some heads in the process. Erick is a rare breed who can do anything and everything on the gridiron and it won’t be long until he is one of the most sought-after athletes in the country. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Erick climb to the top of recruiting boards in both football and basketball down the road.

Another tone setter coming out of this camp is Jeremiah Johnson Jeremiah Johnson 5’11” | 200 lbs | RB Aledo | 2027 State TX . You might recognize his name from his recent performances in the 12U National Championship and becoming one of the trending topics across social media. Grabbing attention from national audiences, it can be tough to follow up with more big performances, but Jeremiah did just that. With impressive numbers from testing compared to his big frame, Jeremiah is has the perfect combination of speed, strength and explosion. From what I saw in camp, it is no surprise that Jeremiah has collected Most Valuable Player accolades in the past. Jeremiah has an incredibly high ceiling, and has only begun to scratch the surface to what he is capable of down the road. I truly believe that it won’t be long until Jeremiah is a trending topic again down the road on the big stage, and I am excited to see how he develops down the road.
