Malone has the athletic make up to play multiple positions. At a verified 5’6 and 172 pounds, Flander has a powerful build with strength that allows him to fight off blocks well. His closing speed when attacking the ball carrier showed up on his fall film from this past season. During the agility portion of camp, he displayed clean footwork, excellent knee lift in the bag drills and his lateral movement was quick and deliberate. His versatility was evident on film, as he lined up at running back, edge rusher and was a playmaker from all angles on the field. Malone proved he is a Jack of all trades at the linebacker spot.
Highlights
Chip Purtell
Chip Purtell
Purtell has a rangy build with good length, which gives him an advantage over his opponents. During the seek and pursuit drills for the linebackers, he showed good patience and didn’t over committ against the running backs in one on one goaline situations. As Purtell continues to get stronger and matures, his overall game will grow with him. Measuring out at 6’0 162 pounds, Chip could blossom into a potent edge rusher for perennial power Allen High School.
Kirkland was impressive beginning with the agility and combine drills. During the L-Drill, he showed excellent burst and the ability to plant and turn quickly. His footwork was clean and he moved fluidly through the cone and bag drills. Nicknamed “D-Train”, Kirkland used his extended arm length during the passing one one session to derail several passes. He plays with excellent leverage, he displays great body control and gets to his top speed quickly. At 5-foot-10 and 150-pounds, Kirkland is a plug and play athlete, who could line up at outside linebacker and play the passing lanes because of his speed. Look for him to make headlines under Friday night lights in the near future.
