GameChangers: CA Showcase MVPs

Bachhuber proved to be one of the top overall prospects at the showcase after testing out near the top of every category for DL and dominating 1v1s. He has great size and length at 6'5”/250 with a frame to add mass. He utilizes his hands and reach effectively when engaging at the LOS and can beat OTs with athleticism on the edge. On film, he shows ability to track the ball down on the edge with positive downhill speed and motor. Bachhuber, who also plays OT, has a mix of Pac-12 and MW offers from Utah, Washington, Colorado, ASU, Colorado St., and San Jose St. 

Mao's a rising interior OL with good size/frame for either center or guard spot. He has a stout, physical build measuring 5'11”/300 at the event. He showed ability to anchor down against bull rush and the lateral movement to stay in front of his blocks. On film, he's a high-IQ center that can identify stunts/blitzes and is quick to snap-and-engage. He locates targets working up to the second level and moves defenders off the ball in the run game. Mao picked up his first offer from Colorado in October and should continue to generate D-I offers heading into his junior season.

Beierly has the physical makeup of a D-I QB as a sophomore at 6'1”/210. He's an athletic, mobile QB that tested in the top 3 of every category for his position. He generates throwing power from the ground up in the pocket and has a strong arm that can push the ball downfield with velocity. He shows balance in his footwork/platform operating from the pocket and adds velocity stepping into his throws. He's accurate attacking all levels of the defense and can lead receivers into space. Beierly has offers from Pitt, BYU, and Hawaii and should continue to raise his stock as he grows and develops. 

Shanley was the WR MVP largely due to his performance in 1v1s. He's an advanced, crafty route-runner that can get a clean release at the LOS and create separation driving out of his break. He's fast with his hands and feet in tight coverage and can change speeds with ease. He showed good ball-tracking downfield and finished plays with soft, sure hands. Shanley should continue to raise his stock as the top returning WR for San Clemente next season. 

Branham's an athletic LB that excels at making plays in coverage. He showed his speed and explosiveness testing as the top LB in the 40 (4.68) and broad jump (9'2”). He made multiple plays in 1v1 coverage over RBs and TEs, showing short-area quickness and closing speed. On film, he's a downhill 4-3 OLB that can jump passing lanes in underneath coverage and track down ball-carriers out towards the sidelines. Branham is the top returning tackler for Ponderosa (CO) next season. 

Talbit, originally listed as a DB, was the top-performing RB of the day. He has a compact, wrestler's body with strong balance and low center-of-gravity. He flashed natural speed and athleticism in testing, running the fastest 40 of the day at 4.53 and the second-best broad jump at 9'5”. He's a physical runner on film that can shed tackles with sheer strength and drives his legs through contact. On defense, he's a downhill tackler that can play close to the LOS as a SS and be disruptive in the run game. Tablit took a visit to NAIA Dordt in December. 

Gonzales is a nimble, fluid athlete that flashed natural speed and burst in both testing and 1v1s. He's a smaller CB measuring at 5'10”/160 that can play in space and mirror routes in man coverage with quick change-of-direction. He showed ability to make plays in 1v1 coverage, driving downhill on routes and ball skills at the catch point. Gonzales, Bachhuber, and Shanley make up a strong core of returning seniors for San Clemente next season.
