Continue ReadingOn a weekly basis during this time of year, I look into our film room to take a quick view of updated highlight films we received recently. During my last visit, the recruits listed below posted their highlight link in my Twitter thread. Upon review, I break down a “bit” of what I saw from newly named recruits who were not known to me prior to watching the film and are worthy of knowing. This preview includes recruits in the class of 2025.
Brenden Ryan Brenden Ryan 5’10” | 160 lbs | ATH Boston College | 2025 New E His quickness allows him to cover sideline to sideline on defense playing safety. Relentless pursuer who takes outstanding angle pursuits when pursing ball carrier. On offense, he keeps his pads square when running inside at the line of scrimmage. Protects ball well on inside runs.
Highlights
John Rovegno John Rovegno 5’11” | 225 lbs | DL Duxbury H.S. Ma. | 2025 New E At first glance he appears short in height for defensive line play but one must consider he is only a sophomore and has time for growth and development. With that said, he surely has a quick first and second step. He uses excellent leverage in his lower body to sustain blockers and still make the play or occupy and carry out his gap responsibility. Mainly seen as a gap plugger that fights and gives consistent effort each rep.
Jaden Arterberry Jaden Arterberry 5’8″ | 170 lbs | ATH New Fairfield H.S. Ct. | 2025 New E He fits into the slot position like he belongs. He is slippery in open field. Has very good quickness when running his routs. Knows how to stick his foot in the ground and break away clean getting separation. Uses both hands to catch the ball and shows high confidence in his ability to make the catch each time he is targeted. Smaller frame but has time for growth and development.
Michael Smith Michael Smith 6’0″ | 230 lbs | OL Boston College H.S. Ma. | 2025 New E Playing center his awareness is evident before the snap and after. He has the quick feet to identify and adjust in the protection schemes. Motor and effort are one thing but playing with real tenacity and anger is usually what separates the men from the boys. This is where “Smith” excels and brings him over the concern of his height size at center. His effort is consistent. He has time to still grow and continue developing in weight room. With that said, he is surely an offensive lineman college coaches will keep on their boards to follow.
