Making it a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks is one of the priorities of defensive linemen.

In Class 3A, these three players were really, really, REALLY good at doing just that.

[player_tooltip player_id='152765' first='Vince' last='Benetti'] of Adel-ADM, [player_tooltip player_id='320602' first='Brad' last='Vislisel'] from Mount Vernon and [player_tooltip player_id='247879' first='Tayeton' last='Lohaus'] of Humboldt combined for 27.5 quarterback sacks this past fall.

As a whole, 3A featured 11 players with at least six sacks, led by Benetti's dozen.

First Team - [player_tooltip player_id='152765' first='Vince' last='Benetti'] - Adel-ADM - Senior

A future Iowa State Cyclone, [player_tooltip player_id='152765' first='Vince' last='Benetti'] made is a nightmare week after week in Class 3A on the football field. He finished his senior season with 80.5 tackles, an incredible number from a defensive lineman. Among those were 25.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, 64 solo stops and 12 quarterback sacks.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder is an incredible athlete and will be someone to watch in the years to come.

Second Team - [player_tooltip player_id='320602' first='Brad' last='Vislisel'] - Mount Vernon - Senior

When you finish the season with 24.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks, you would figure top honors were coming your way. And most seasons, that would have been enough for [player_tooltip player_id='320602' first='Brad' last='Vislisel']. Still, the Mount Vernon senior had nothing to be disappointed about.

Vislisel led Mount Vernon to a state championship game appearance, nearly knocking off Harlan. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder will take his talents to Cedar Falls and join Northern Iowa in the fall.

Third Team - [player_tooltip player_id='247879' first='Tayeton' last='Lohaus'] - Humboldt - Senior

Since Derrick Elman's arrival as head coach, Humboldt has continually put out very, very athletic players. One of them this past season was [player_tooltip player_id='247879' first='Tayeton' last='Lohaus'], as the future South Dakota player dominated in the trenches. Using his exceptional length, Lohaus recorded 35.5 tackles with 15 for loss and 6.5 sacks.

He also showcased his skills along the offensive line, helping a strong Humboldt ground attack reach the state semifinals for a second consecutive season.

Honorable Mention

Brady Petersen of Central DeWitt, [player_tooltip player_id='320402' first='Will' last='Shaw'] from Benton, Harlan's Gunner Schmitz, Hampton-Dumont/CAL junior Scott Harr and Solon junior Ben Kampman were all incredibly productive from along the defensive line.
