They make our stockrisers what they are and what do I love about all six of these prospects? They all have the growth potential to get even better come 2023.
Cade Kaiser Cade Kaiser 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Pierre T.F. Riggs | 2024 State SD , WR, Pierre TF Riggs (SD) 2024 Twitter & Tape
- Cade shows off some quite intriguing ball skills in higher-traffic areas, and you can tell he threads the needle on deeper routes with his high football IQ; he shows off and also showed that off a bunch from watching him at the NDSU prospect camp last summer.
- With his 6’2 185 pound size, Cade has a massive catch radius with a super high vertical and athletic ability when he goes up for the football on a crossing route. It makes him look way bigger than his measurables.
- He also has a lot of route creativity within his plethora of skillsets, and it is easy to tell on tape that this young man should be the next Governor’s game-changing wide receiver as we look forward to the 2023 football season with Northern State commit Jack Merkwan Jack Merkwan 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Pierre | 2023 State exiting. Cade zooms way up from our 2024 watchlist to #33 overall in our 2024 rankings, putting him in a perfect position as an FCS or Division II prospect at the next level.
Lucas Kampshoff Lucas Kampshoff QB Yankton | 2024 State SD , LB, Yankton (SD) 2024 Twitter & Tape
- There is a bunch to like about Lucas’s awareness at the linebacker position, as he has a well-balanced change of direction that, with some growth, could even get better for the Bucks looking ahead into 2023.
- Lucas also shows good longevity with his length to chase down that ball carrier that might be out of reach for other linebackers with less length on their side, you can guarantee a solid tackle from this young man anywhere in that inside box, and he’ll stretch to the other side of the backfield if he needs to.
- The deeper I got into his tape, the more I became intrigued with his ball instincts as he showed elusive hands with a quick pull off his defender and kept those needed game-time instincts intact. Lucas is another prospect that jumped from our watchlist to the #52 overall spot in our 2024 rankings, as I think there is a lot more upside to be seen with the offseason ahead into the fall season.
Hayden Groos Hayden Groos 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Sioux Falls O'Gorman | 2024 State SD , DB/QB, Sioux Falls O’Gorman (SD) 2024 Twitter & Tape
- Hayden was impressive on tape with his smooth-moving footwork regardless of which direction he was churning his feet. Can get uphill or downhill easily with his compact mobility.
- I like Hayden’s versatility he provides from the defensive back spot, as he has a solid running motor to get into the next level of the field with a quick trigger.
- Hayden also has locked-in instincts, and based on the clips I have seen from games last season, his analyzed positioning places him right in the sweet spot to show off that physicality he has to cause some havoc in the backfield. He will need to cut up some tape to raise our Prep Redzone Dakotas rankings board, but I placed Hayden at #59 overall and should move up this offseason with prospect camps coming up in the next 5-6 months. Certainly looks like a scholarship-level prospect to me.
Triston Butler Triston Butler LB Lennox | 2024 State SD , LB/OL, Lennox (SD) 2024 Twitter & Tape
- The built physicality and big running more of Lennox’s Triston Butler Triston Butler LB Lennox | 2024 State SD left me quite intrigued with his junior tape for the Orioles.
- When Triston flies off the edge with his burst, although he’s not the biggest kid on the field, he can be described as extremely sneaky, as you might lose him on tape, but then he pops and opens up out of nowhere, unleashing a high physicality level for his 5’9 190 pound frame.
- I haven’t seen too many offensive linemen of Triston’s size in my three years scouting the Dakotas with the finish this kid brings and brings it on both sides of the ball. Excited to watch more of it in 2023 as Triston moves in as a 2024 Watchlist prospect to #85 overall in our rankings as a linebacker, which is the best fit for his physical-as-heck nature at the next level. I think developing his athletic movement in space will raise his stock this off-season.
Matthew Coverdale Matthew Coverdale 6'4" | 250 lbs | OL Pierre TF Riggs | 2024 State SD , OL/DL, Pierre TF Riggs (SD) 2024 Twitter & Tape
- Smasher, finisher, and significantly quick feet are the first few words I found to describe Matthew’s junior tape for the 6’4 230 pound OL prospect from the Pierre Governors. Golly, it’s intriguing to see how much more size Matthew can put on at the next level.
- Matthew also shows off a well-versed pad level on every block I got to watch him make on tape, and he’s got all the finesse he needs to drive his defender into the second level of the field, even against solid defense lines in 11AA.
- Matthew shows off outstanding balance with his leverage with his footwork well intact, and I advise the FCS and Divison II schools in the Dakotas regionally to buy the stock now on this young man! He is another 2024 that moves from the watchlist to our rankings and is one I expect to RISE very quickly come prospect camp season.
Carter Randall Carter Randall 5'9" | 170 lbs | LB McCook Central-Montrose | 2024 State SD , LB, McCook Central-Montrose (SD) 2024 Twitter & Tape
- The fiery instinct with his change of direction and his footwork has grown tremendous for Carter from 2021 to wrap up the 2023 season.
- Carter has also grown a ton with the instinctive side of his game, as he’s getting the ball smoother and shedding off easier getting off blocks to pave him a crisp lane to the ball carrier. He plays much, much bigger than 5’9 170 in my eyes.
- He is also not a linebacker that you will want to defend when getting downhill, as he has freight train-like instincts, which is not commonly said with Carter’s measurables. Scholarship schools should certainly take a strong look at this young man come prospect camp season.
