Out of the gate, it was all Williamsville going up 10-0 and controlling the game on both sides of the ball. After the first quarter, IC Catholic responded not with 7 points but 35 unanswered points. They then closed out the game with a 48-17 win to secure another IHSA State Title. With that being said, there are talented young men on both sides of the ball and we’re here to highlight on both teams. Without further ado, let’s dive into the Williamsville Standouts.

Jake Seman
Jake Seman
Mr. Seman finished the day 23/40 for 185 yards with 2 TD, 2 INs, and 21 carries for 86 yards. This young man has legs to him and flashes his shifty elusive type of running style when he runs the option and pulls the ball down to scramble if nothing is open downfield. He also flashes his ability to weave in/out of defenders in open space when scrambling to keep the chains moving. Switching over to his passing skill set, he can add zip on the ball to make throws in tight coverage to keep the chains moving and can add a touch on level 2 throws putting it right above the underneath LB’s head for a TD. He didn’t get the result he was hoping for in this game, but he is still a dual threat QB that has potential to play at the next level.
Mr. Hinds has been on my radar for a few years now and it was nice to see him finally get the chance to play in the state title game where he finished with 7 receptions for 57 yards. This young man has the foot quicks to win over the top after he stacks the defender and can find soft spots in zone coverage to sit being an outlet for his QB. There were also a few instances where he almost came down with deep shots downfield but just wasn’t able to haul it in as it was just outside his reach.
Highlights
John Layman
John Layman
Mr. Layman finished the game with 3 tackles along with 0.5 TFLs in this matchup. He was able to do so by shooting gaps to blow up plays in the backfield off his penetration where he was able to secure one TFL but others was able to instead give his teammates time to rally to the ball to secure the tackle. This young man can also crash down the line of scrimmage to plug gaps in run support keeping the LBs free.
Mr. Workman finished the game with 4 receptions for 39 yards with 1 TD, 3 carries for 15 yards, and 2 tackles. This young man was able to do so by bending a seam route out of the slot into the soft spot in zone coverage for a TD in the 2nd. He can also make defenders miss in open space showcasing his elusiveness before getting vertical to move the sticks and that’s exactly how he almost broke a KOR TD to start the 3rd. Not to forget he ran an end around jet sweep using his lateral quickness to turn the corner.
Jacob Finley
Jacob Finley
I spoke about Mr. Finley recently and being able to see his performance LIVE just confirms what I previously stated. This young man has a massive frame standing at 6’8 290 who is a mauler when it comes to run blocking. When he’s pulling he’s a lead blocker through the B gap which is where he can create a hole for the ball carrier by jolting the defender upright and putting the defender on his back. The same is seen when he drive blocks and when he down blocks. Safe to say you can see why he holds an offer from Eastern Illinois University and from Illinois State University.
Colin Ripperda
Colin Ripperda
Mr. Ripperda is a hard runner that keeps his feet driving through contact and was able to break a few long runs with his low center of gravity. This resulted in him finishing with 9 carries for 46 yards and 10 tackles on the day. Whenever this young man had the ball it seemed like he kept breaking grab tackles to stay ahead of the sticks and was just one broken tackle away from breaking a long run for 6.
Honorable Mention
Harley Sharp 23′ RB
Mason Lyttaker 24′ WR
Nolan Bates 23′ DB
