Comprised of some of the top teams in the county, the MAC Red league is known for its intense competition and high level of play. Teams in the MAC Red league include Dakota High School, Romeo High School, Eisenhower High School, and others. These teams consistently produce talented players and compete for conference titles each season.
In recent years, the MAC Red league has produced several players who have gone on to play at the collegiate level and even the NFL. This success is a testament to the high level of coaching and player development in the conference. So, it’s no question that there are some amazingly talented athletes who just finished their Junior season on their way to their senior campaign.
Rising (soon-to-be) Seniors
DB | Jalen Whittaker | Dakota
Dakota just swept the MAC Red and were state title contenders. Though, their senior class is huge. This means there will likely be a ton of first-year starters for this elite program. One of the players who will need to lead the charge on the defensive side of the ball is Jalen Whittaker. This past season, he posted impressive stats with 31 tackles, 1 interception, and 7 pass breakups. Whittaker’s impressive skills and sound fundamentals make him a standout player on the field. He consistently shuts down opposing receivers and makes big plays for his team. His quick reactions and solid tackling skills make it tough for opponents to get past him. If Whittaker continues to improve and hone his skills, he could easily become a Power 5 prospect at the collegiate level.
DB | Ahmad Hrhor Ahmad Hrhor 5'11" | 160 lbs | DB Sterling Heights Stevenson | 2024 State MI | Stevenson
Hrhor is a similar player to Whittaker. This is a type of player who sticks to opposing receivers and closes in even more once the ball is thrown, rarely initiating unnecessary contact. He has a reputation for being skilled at breaking up passes. Hrhor has excellent anticipation and reaction skills, as well as good technique and ball skills, which allow him to consistently disrupt opposing receivers’ routes and make plays on the ball. We all know that the MAC Red is known for its skilled receivers, so however Hrhor performs next season, I know he’ll earn his stripes.
ATH | Owen Youngblood Owen Youngblood 5'7" | 135 lbs | ATH Romeo | 2024 MI | Romeo
Owen Youngblood Owen Youngblood 5'7" | 135 lbs | ATH Romeo | 2024 MI is a dynamic athlete at Romeo High School who plays both slot receiver and defensive back. He is also an accomplished wrestler, which bolsters his excellent physical abilities and competitive spirit. I love how competitive and relentless Youngblood is on the football field. As a DB, he’s a ball hawk and playmaker. He has a few extremely impressive interceptions, and once he hits the open field, look out. Offensively, he’s a twitchy slot guy that’s able to make the defense scramble to defend him. He may be the most dynamic player in Macomb County, and I truly hope to see improvement next season. If he does improve, we could be looking at a D2 prospect.
ATH | Shamar Heard Shamar Heard 5'9" | 150 lbs | ATH Chippewa Valley | 2024 State MI | Chippewa Valley
If you follow the MAC Red, you know who Shamar Heard Shamar Heard 5'9" | 150 lbs | ATH Chippewa Valley | 2024 State MI is. Heard is an extremely flashy wide receiver, kick returner, and defensive back for Chippewa Valley, who is known for his speed and athleticism. He is considered one of the fastest athletes in the state and has a lot of potential as a football player. One of Heard’s biggest assets is his speed, which makes him a threat to score from anywhere on the field. He is likely a dangerous weapon in the open field and can create mismatches with slower defenders. He’s a big play in a bottle and always has the ability to take it to the house. He’s been a D1 prospect since his freshman season, though I am itching to see more vast improvements in the coming year. I still think he’s a D1 player, but now, the thing that will impress me the most is proven work ethic and improvement you can see.
