In Texas, all of the state games are held in one place The AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX. One of the best Stadiums in the whole country and there we get to witness the results of all these young men’s hard work. The game I will be covering is South Oak Cliff Bears vs Port-Neches Groves Indians. It was a great game overall with Port-Neches Grove taking the lead early on going into the 2nd half. However, in the 2nd half, South Oak Cliff kicked in 2nd gear and kept on scoring touchdown after touchdown. The final score was 34-24 with South Oak Cliff becoming The 5A Division II State Champions. Both teams fought extremely hard in this article I’ll be breaking down Port-Neches Groves Indians’ offensive and defensive standouts.
Port-Neches Groves Offense
#33 Isaiah Nguyen RB Jr
Isaiah Nguyen is a fast and powerful running back. Isaiah is Port-Neches Grove main running back and the key to their run-heavy offense. Every time Isaiah ran the ball he always got the 1st down. Isaiah was strong enough to break and fast enough to outrun defenders for a big gain. Isaiah most impressive was running for 59-yard and getting stop at their goal line putting them in position for a touchdown.
#10 Landon Guarnere Sr WR
Landon Guarnere is a standout wide receiver. Although, Port-Neches Grove rarely passed the ball all Landon needed was one opportunity to show his skill. Landon used his speed to be completely wide open for a 53-yard touchdown. Especially since this was the 1st touchdown of the game it set the tempo for both teams to start playing seriously.
Port-Neches Groves Defense
#6 Nick Gardiner MLB Sr 5’10 200 lbs
One person I saw frequently making plays was middle linebacker Nick Gardiner. Nick was a menace to South Oak Cliff offense always there to stop runs or disrupt pass plays. By the end of the 1st half Nick already had 6 solo tackles I rarely see those kind of stats. It is unfortunate Nick’s last high school game didn’t result in him becoming a state champion, but he currently has one college offer from East Texas Baptist University.
#16 Seth Landry OLB Sr
Another standout linebacker is Seth Landry. Seth is quick and aggressive being able to get through South Oak Cliff’s O-line to get in the backfield. With Seth and Nick Gardiner on the prowl they made it extremely difficult for South Oak Cliff to play. Seth had a big sack that the quarterback didn’t see coming one of the best hits all night.
