They reached the AA-1 division final before falling to Holy Trinity in the championship. They finished with a 9-3 record which included key wins over opponents in the AAA division. They defeated Staten Island rival Monsignor Farrell and Bronx power Cardinal Hayes. The Mavericks had playmakers all over the field which helped them have a successful season. They are one of the fastest rising programs in New York after being towards the bottom of the catholic league 5 years ago. Check out some of the top prospects on this Moore Catholic team in 2022.
Top Performers
The Sacred Heart bound senior had a lot of hype around him for this upcoming season and he lived up to it. Michalski did everything for Moore Catholic. He led the catholic league AA-1 division in both passing yards and rushing yards. He squats 500 pounds and displayed his strength while running defenders over when he took off with the ball. He’s a pure athlete at 6 ‘2 205 he even made plays at defensive end for the Mavericks. He had a cannon of an arm and his deep ball accuracy was incredible.rn
Highlights
The player protecting Michalski’s blindside was a brick wall all season long. Tabansi earned lineman of the year in the AA-1 division of the catholic league. The Buffalo signee moved exceptionally well for his frame at 6’5 285 pounds. In the championship game he helped chase down the opposing team’s safety preventing a pick six. Along with his explosiveness, Tabansi’s power in his run blocking was very impressive. At times he completely cleared the left side of the field.

Returning Stars
Moore Catholic’s speedster had a phenomenal junior year. Lighten was an extremely dangerous deep threat on offense. His ability to fly down field and John Michalski John Michalski 6’1″ | 200 lbs | QB Moore Catholic | 2023 State NY ‘s arm strength was a perfect match. He accounted for plenty of big plays in a season where the Mavericks had lots of success. Lighten also was effective as a cornerback. He played very well against the opposition’s number 1 wide receiver. On deep routes, Lighten was so difficult to beat and he also laid some hard hits preventing completions.
Highlights
The elusive back was a consistent star for the Mavericks. He finished with over 1,100 yards on the ground during his sophomore campaign. Pacheco is a smooth running back as he cuts very well and changes direction quickly. He sliced and diced through defenses throughout the season and constantly moved the chains for this Moore Catholic offense. The sophomore already has offers from Temple and Buffalo. He should draw even more attention due to the athleticism he has.
Sending off the 2023’s
The senior safety was a playmaker for this Mavericks defense. He was a ball hawk reading quarterbacks eyes and making great plays on the ball. Against run heavy teams, Zeh showed his speed to come downhill and make tackles in those games. He was also a talented receiver for the Mavericks. He had key receptions in big games for Moore Catholic and at 6’2 he gave smaller cornerbacks a ton of issues.
The hard hitting linebacker led the Mavericks with 113 tackles and anchored their front seven at middle linebacker. When blitzing, Coachman powered past offensive lineman religiously. He had good body control and forced a good amount of turnovers for a Mavericks defense that faced some great offenses all year.
