The St. John's Cadets achieved historic greatness over the weekend with a 7-3 victory over the DeMatha Stags in the WCAC championship game. This victory secures back to back WCAC championships for St. John's, and it also makes them the first back to back champion since, ironically, DeMatha did it in the early 2010's. This St. John's Cadets team will absolutely go down in history as one of the best and most resilient teams in program history, as they continued the long-established Cadet tradition of greatness. Let's take a closer look at the standout performances from Sunday's championship game at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

ST. JOHN'S 7

2023 6'3 200 QB - Myles Slade - St. John's

Myles Slade made the game winning throw in this championship when he connected with [player_tooltip player_id='477672' first='Asa' last='Gregg'] in the end-zone for an 11 yard touchdown. The Senior quarterback threw a beautiful 50/50 ball up for Gregg, and his receiver made a spectacular play on the ball and secured the catch for the score. This touchdown gave the Cadets a 7-3 lead with only two minutes left in the 4th quarter, and it essentially sealed the game for St. John's. Given that Myles Slade began the season under center for the Cadets, it was only fitting that Slade be the one to throw the championship winning pass on 3rd down for St. John's. It was a fairy tale kind of season for Myles Slade and the Cadets, and a 7-3 WCAC championship victory was the destiny for St. John's from the beginning of the season.

Highlights: https://twitter.com/jakerohm/status/1594490481794318337?s=20&t=KJ7R_5S4uQyP29rVsycfsg

2023 6'2 190 WR - [player_tooltip player_id='477672' first='Asa' last='Gregg'] - St. John's

[player_tooltip player_id='477672' first='Asa' last='Gregg'] caught the game winning touchdown for St. John's when he made an absolutely jaw-dropping highlight reel catch over his defender in the end-zone for the Cadets. Gregg only hauled-in two catches in this contest, however, it's safe to say that securing the game winning touchdown catch is very much worthy of player of the game honors. [player_tooltip player_id='477672' first='Asa' last='Gregg'] is absolutely my offensive player of the game honoree, and there's a link to the video of his incredible highlight reel catch located below. [player_tooltip player_id='477672' first='Asa' last='Gregg'] is a stellar wide receiver, and D1 scouts should recruit him with the utmost seriousness.

Highlights: https://twitter.com/jakerohm/status/1594490481794318337?s=20&t=KJ7R_5S4uQyP29rVsycfsg

2023 6'1 185 DB - Trent Brown - St. John's

Senior defensive back Trent Brown played spectacularly well down the final stretch of the season for St. John's, and his game sealing interception in the championship game was a perfect representation of that fact. Trent Brown and the entire Cadet defense absolutely dominated this contest, and they prevented the Stags from reaching the end-zone which was a championship statement. Trent Brown established himself as a leader of this defense throughout the season, and it was no different during Sunday's championship. Trent Brown is an incredible defensive player with a very high ceiling, and, at the next level, he will make any program's defense better.

Highlights: https://twitter.com/trent_brown23/status/1595119362473877504?s=20&t=KJ7R_5S4uQyP29rVsycfsg

2025 6'0 170 DB - [player_tooltip player_id='273398' first='Tariq' last='Hayer'] - St. John's

[player_tooltip player_id='273398' first='Tariq' last='Hayer'] made one of the plays of the game in this contest, and he did so by intercepting DeMatha quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='250315' first='Denzel' last='Gardner']. Hayer made an incredible play on the ball, and he somehow secured it for the interception even though it seemed to bobble between three players before he caught it. The catch took incredible coordination, focus, and athleticism which were all on full display during this spectacular interception. [player_tooltip player_id='273398' first='Tariq' last='Hayer'] played spectacular football in the secondary for St. John's all season, and the fact that he's only a Sophomore is absolutely incredible. [player_tooltip player_id='273398' first='Tariq' last='Hayer'] has a marvelous career ahead of him, and this year's WCAC championship effort is just the beginning for Hayer and the Cadets. He's an elite defensive secondary prospect already.

Highlights: https://t.co/EkJwnwIQE5

2023 6'0 195 DB - [player_tooltip player_id='90664' first='Collin' last='Gill'] - St. John's - Oregon

The sole fumble recovery in this game was made by [player_tooltip player_id='90664' first='Collin' last='Gill'], and he returned the ball 27 yards out of their own red-zone and toward mid-field. [player_tooltip player_id='90664' first='Collin' last='Gill']'s fumble recovery was absolutely crucial to achieving victory, as it prevented DeMatha from putting more early points on the scoreboard. [player_tooltip player_id='90664' first='Collin' last='Gill'] played championship level football all season long for the Cadets, and it's clear that the Senior defensive back is more than prepared for the D1 level. [player_tooltip player_id='90664' first='Collin' last='Gill'] is an elite talent with a very high ceiling, and the Oregon Ducks should be ecstatic with [player_tooltip player_id='90664' first='Collin' last='Gill']'s commitment.

Highlights: https://t.co/vvCxvSxvZG

2023 6'1 185 WR - [player_tooltip player_id='247536' first='Sean' last='Williams'] - St. John's - Maryland

[player_tooltip player_id='247536' first='Sean' last='Williams']' stats in this game didn't pop-off the stat sheet like they usually do, however, he caught two balls for a combined 46 yards and he even hauled in one catch for a 31 yard gain. Williams converted multiple first downs or the cadets, and both were extremely critical to the positive outcome of the game for St. John's. [player_tooltip player_id='247536' first='Sean' last='Williams'] also played the leading role for this Cadet receiving corps throughout the Fall. There's zero doubt in my mind that [player_tooltip player_id='247536' first='Sean' last='Williams'] is going to do great things at the next level, and I am extremely excited to watch him make a huge impact at the University of Maryland next year. The Terps also received the commitment of St. Frances Academy wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='247377' first='Ryan' last='Manning']. The receiving tandem of [player_tooltip player_id='247536' first='Sean' last='Williams'] and [player_tooltip player_id='247377' first='Ryan' last='Manning'] will do spectacular things at UMD, and College Park has a very bright future with these two on the roster.

Highlights: https://t.co/mmjbwcRN1c

DEMATHA 3

2023 5'11 185 RB - [player_tooltip player_id='90681' first='Brendon' last='Wyatt'] - DeMatha

[player_tooltip player_id='90681' first='Brendon' last='Wyatt'] ran strong for the Stags the entire season, and it was no different in the championship game on Sunday. Wyatt broke free for multiple long runs, and his presence in the backfield was vital in this game. [player_tooltip player_id='90681' first='Brendon' last='Wyatt'] truly left it all on the field this Fall, and there's no doubt that he is a member of the 1st Team All-WCAC backfield. [player_tooltip player_id='90681' first='Brendon' last='Wyatt'] has received multiple D1 offers from schools such as UNCC and Morgan State, however, with his 1st Team All-WCAC performance this season, it's more than likely that the power five conference offers will be rolling in soon. Wyatt had a stellar season at running back, and his numbers truly speak for themselves. D1 programs everywhere must know the name [player_tooltip player_id='90681' first='Brendon' last='Wyatt'], especially if they're recruiting a running back.

Highlights: https://t.co/xtDcAkyMH8

2025 6'4 230 DE - [player_tooltip player_id='273347' first='Cortez' last='Harris'] - DeMatha

[player_tooltip player_id='273347' first='Cortez' last='Harris'] made tackle after tackle in this championship contest, and his efforts were a huge reason why St. John's had trouble jumpstarting their offense. Harris is one of the premier defense ends in the class of 2025, and he certainly showed us why that is on Sunday. His ability to read play development and drop back into coverage, if necessary, is second to none, and Harris already has multiple D1 power five conference offers. He will definitely receive even more this offseason after his spectacular play this Fall. [player_tooltip player_id='273347' first='Cortez' last='Harris'] has one of the highest ceilings on this entire DeMatha roster, and he's certainly one of the top overall players in Maryland's 2025 class. DeMatha has an extremely bright future with [player_tooltip player_id='273347' first='Cortez' last='Harris'] on the roster.

Highlights: https://t.co/zBsGmlJFZz
