Playoff football is in full swing in the state of Missouri and I was fortunate to check out a second round match up this past Friday night. This past week, I went to St. Charles West High School to see their Warriors football team take on the Wright City Wildcats. Wright City was able to keep things close through the first half but St. Charles took control midway through the third quarter to run away with the 28-7 victory. The Warriors will host Lutheran North for their third round game this week. While there were several players that caught my eye, these are the players that stood out the most from this game.
Jacob Kirt
Jacob Kirt
The player that I believe made the biggest impact on either team on Friday was the Warriors’ senior running back, Jacob Kirt. Kirt thrived in the downhill running game, using his vision to find the running lane quickly and hit the lane with a full head of steam. He showed that he is a very physical runner that does a great job of lowering his shoulder and keeping his legs churning to break tackles. Once he gets to the open field, Kirt has the speed to run away from the defense and elusiveness to make defenders miss. He also played some linebacker and made a solid impact on defense but he shined the brightest with the ball in his hands. Jacob currently holds offers from Westminster and Culver Stockton and I could see him being a true impact player at the next level.
Morgan Regot
Morgan Regot
The best player on the defensive side of the ball on Friday was junior linebacker Morgan Regot. He brought a ton of energy at inside linebacker and was the true leader of the defense. Regot did a great job of reading his keys and filling his gap in a hurry against the run. Once he got to the ball carrier, he did a good job of running his feet and exploding through contact to make his presence felt on every tackle. He also did a very good job of flowing to the ball when the play was away from him and getting off blocks on his way to the ball carrier. Regot also scored a touchdown as a running back on offense but I liked what I saw more from him on defense. The First Team All-Conference linebacker doesn’t currently hold any offers but should be a name to watch heading into his senior year as he has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.
Brayden Miller
Brayden Miller
I came away from Friday night’s game very impressed with the offensive line unit as a whole for St. Charles West. The leader in the middle of this group was senior Brayden Miller. Brayden is a bigger center at 6’4″, 300 pounds that moves very well for his size. He showed the ability to pull from the center spot as a lead blocker and pick up blocks in open space. Miller also plays with a ton of physicality, creating movement off the line of scrimmage and finishing his blocks through the whistle. He also played defensive tackle and did a great job of creating penetration into the backfield to stop the run. Bryaden currently holds offers from Graceland, Culver Stockton, Knox College, and Concordia, and I could see him being a key addition to any of those programs.
Erik Sullivan
Erik Sullivan
Another senior lineman that impressed for the Warriors was Erik Sullivan. He lined up at right guard and was a true mauler in the run game. Sullivan showed an explosive first step out of his stance and did a great job of running his feet through contact to drive his man down the field. He also played very physical, finishing his blocks through the whistle. Sullivan also played defensive tackle where he dominated the line of scrimmage. He was able to drive his blocker back into the backfield and was able to clog his gap against the run. Erik doesn’t currently have any reported offers but he should be receiving interest from college coaches as he has the talent to play on either side of the ball at the next level.
Barrett Disselhorst
Barrett Disselhorst
The third senior lineman that stood out to me for the Warriors this Friday was Barrett Disselhorst. He lined up at left guard and was another interior lineman that dominated in the run game. He used his strength to get a solid initial punch with his hands and once he got inside position, he did a great job of running his feet through contact. Disselhorst drove his man several yards down the field on many occasions and kept driving through the whistle. He also played a key role on defense, creating penetration into the backfield and fighting through blocks on his way to the ball carrier. Barrett currently holds offers from Culver Stockton and Central Missouri and I can see him developing into a very good lineman on either side of the ball at the next level.
An underclassman that caught my eye for the Warriors was sophomore tight end Kyle Cotton Kyle Cotton 6’2″ | 245 lbs | TE St. Charles West | 2025 State MO . Cotton has a very nice frame for his position, measuring in at 6’2″, 225 pounds. He showed the ability to be used in many different ways on offense, but mainly in an H-Back role or split out wide as an extra receiver. Cotton ran smooth routes and was a key target in the short passing game, showing very impressive hands while catching the ball across the middle. He was also used as a jump ball threat in the deep passing game and red zone. Kyle was also used as a lead blocker out of the H-Back role, was one of the team’s kickoff returners, and played some snaps at defensive end. While he doesn’t hold any offers at the moment, Cotton will be a player to watch over the next couple years as he made First Team All-Conference as a sophomore and has the potential to turn into a highly sought after prospect.
Aerion Williams
Aerion Williams
Someone that stood out to me is a player who can play in many different roles for St. Charles West was junior Aerion Williams. Williams first caught my eye as their punt returner. He showed elite speed in the open field and the elusiveness to make defenders miss, coming very close to returning a punt for a touchdown. Williams also played on defense as a corner on the outside. He showed great man coverage skills with the ability to use his speed to mirror receivers. He also wasn’t afraid to come downhill and provide support against the run. Williams was also used occasionally on offense as both a slot receiver and a running back. Aerion doesn’t currently hold any offers but I believe he will be a player to watch going into next season, especially if his role expands on offense.
Jeremiah Davis
Jeremiah Davis
Davis was arguably the biggest bright spot for Wright City this past Friday. The senior lined up in the slot on offense but was used mostly as a ball carrier. He was used on jet sweeps and showed the speed to get to the outside. Davis also showed that he is a very hard runner with the ability to run his feet through contact to pick up extra yards. On defense, he lined up at linebacker and did a great job of reading his keys and coming downhill against the run. When the play was away from him, Davis did a great job of flowing to the ball and showed that he is a very reliable tackler in the open field. Davis doesn’t have any reported offers but he should be on the radar of college coaches as he has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.
Another player that impressed me for Wright City was sophomore offensive lineman Mason Wendt Mason Wendt 6’4″ | 300 lbs | OL Wright City | 2025 State MO . Wendt has nice size at the center position at 6’3″, 275 pounds. Mason moves very well for his size, showing the ability to get the snap off quickly and get up to the second level and pick up blocks in open space. He has an explosive first step in the run game, stepping to his man while snapping the ball. Once he gets to his man, he does a great job of getting inside position with his hands and driving his feet through contact to create movement off the line of scrimmage. Mason doesn’t hold any offers yet but should be a name to watch over the next couple seasons as I believe he has the potential to turn into a very good offensive line prospect.
