That means in two weeks, half the football programs in Michigan will be done, with 50% less playing every week thereafter. This week, many teams were fighting for their playoff lives and, in some cases, fighting for better seeding. Here are many of the most significant outcomes during Week 7!
Capital-Area
Lapeer 42 Grand Ledge 28
Grand Ledge is a great team, standing at 5-2 with some high-quality wins. Though Lapeer is better, with another amazing performance by Zak Olejniczak Zak Olejniczak 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Lapeer | 2024 State MI . Lapeer’s final two games are against two ELITE teams, Clarkston and Davison.
Haslett 30 Williamston 27
Both of these teams are playoff teams. Haslett is only the 2nd team to get the better of Williamston this season.
Catholic League
Country Day 22 U-D Jesuit 13
Country Day is rolling, standing at 5-1 with some great talent, most notably Gabe Winowich. U-D Jesuit is at a frustrating 3-4 with some close games against some of the best programs in the state. If they want to earn a playoff spot, they will surely have to beat Pinckney next week.
DCC 31 OLSM 17
Catholic Central is a phenomenal program with state championship potential, while OLSM is still a playoff-worthy team. Shockingly, OLSM currently has enough playoff points to play in the postseason. As long as they defeat Oak Park this week, they should be in.
Flint Metro
Holly 28 Kearsley 21
Too close for comfort for Holly, but nevertheless, this win secures them a playoff spot.
Fenton 28 Linden 21
Two evenly-matched playoff teams here.
Swartz Creek 35 Flushing 34
Gutsy win for Swartz Creek, effectively flushing the Raiders from the playoffs
Huron League
Riverview 18 Airport 13
Riverview continues to keep winning, and at this point, they seem to be a state championship contender. Airport is no joke either and will have their chance to prove themselves further in the postseason.
Independent
Gladwin 33 Notre Dame Prep 27
By far the most impressive win for Gladwin so far this season. This is a force in Division 5. ND Prep is still good at 6-2. No sweat with this loss.
KLAA
Northville 28 Hartland 21
The Mustangs keep on rolling and improve their playoff seeding. Hartland, on the other hand, is 4-3 with plenty of extremely close games. With 52 playoff points, they should be good for the postseason.
Franklin 22 Fordson 14
A bit of a scare for undefeated Franklin. Even on a significant down year, Fordson is still a tough team to beat.
Novi 28 Howell 21
Another sure playoff team beating a fringe playoff team. Howell needs to beat Brighton, the #1 team in D1, to make the playoffs.
Lakes Valley
Walled Lake Western 40 Waterford Mott 21
When Western wants to be good, they’re a state championship contender. This week they were good, and they beat a great Mott team. Both of these teams have the potential for deep playoff runs.
Lakeland 21 South Lyon East 10
Extremely important win for Lakeland, beating a great SLE team. Both are now playoff teams.
MAC
Lake Shore 16 Eastpointe 12
Close matchup that playoff team Lake Shore ended up winning.
Grosse Pointe South 20 Lakeview 16
Both of these teams will make the playoffs when all is said and done. Nevertheless, great win for GPS, and this will improve their seeding.
Dakota 31 Eisenhower 14
Nobody wants to play Dakota right now. They just ran right through the MAC Red, and something spectacular would have to happen for them not to finish the season 9-0. This is a Division 1 State Championship contender. Eisenhower, on the other hand, is a great team who has dramatically improved from last season.
Romeo 21 Chippewa Valley 17
You can never count either of these teams out. I would love to watch one or both of these teams in the postseason.
Anchor Bay 20 Stevenson 18
Extremely important win for Anchor Bay. They are a likely playoff team. Stevenson is 1-6 and unless they beat Rochester Adams and Fraser, they have no shot at the playoffs.
Mott 14 Port Huron Northern 10
This score came as a bit of a surprise. Port Huron Northern is already a playoff team, but now they have lost their undefeated status. Mott is now 4-3 with significantly increased odds of making the postseason.
OAA
Avondale 27 North Farmington 24
Amazing win for Avondale that makes them a shoo-in for the playoffs. North Farmington is 2-5 with many close, very familiar losses.
Clarkston 45 Lake Orion 41
The Wolves keep rolling, and they’re doing very well in the grueling OAA Red. Lake Orion is currently the last team in the D1 Playoffs, but I heavily expect them to earn a playoff spot when it’s all said and done. Keep a close eye on LO vs Saline on October 21.
Rochester 10 Groves 6
I’m impressed by Rochester as of late. These next two weeks against Stoney Creek and Renaissance will be extremely interesting. Groves should win against Berkley next week but will face a daunting test against Seaholm on October 21.
Ottawa-Kent
Cedar Springs 53 Forest Hills Eastern 35
An expected high-scoring game. Cedar Springs needed this game. The Red Hawks are currently just outside the playoffs, but they should win their last two games, putting them in. FHE is 5-2 and should be a comfortable playoff team.
Forest Hills Northern 20 EGR 17
Tough loss for EGR who was beginning to find its stride. FHE is in decent shape, with hard games against Byron Center and Forest Hills Central coming up.
Fruitport 28 West Catholic 20
Wow! Extremely surprising outcome here. The next two weeks for West Catholic will be extremely telling. This is an amazing win for Fruitport and they’re a comfortable playoff team.
East Kentwood 14 West Ottawa 6
I attended this game. A great defensive battle with minimal defensive mistakes and many Offensive/ST mistakes. It was a great game that likely brings East Kentwood into the playoffs, and knocks West Ottawa out of the playoffs.
Southeastern
Bedford 7 Saline 0
What’s more impressive than beating Saline? Shutting them out. One of the most impressive wins all season for any team in the state. bedford is a playoff team, and a good one at that. Saline falls to 6-1, and if I had to be honest, I think they’re a bit overrated. Dexter and Lake Orion will either expose Saline, or reinforce their power in the state.
