I am listing the players who’s stat line stood out, who people recommended but most importantly, ONLY players who either I watched live or was able to watch highlights from their specific game. For the best chance to be featured, send me your weekly film on twitter. My handle is “@DevinRecord”, please don’t have any hard feelings if you weren’t included.
I’ve included Payton in this series of articles and he deserves another mention this week. As I’ve said, Payton is a match-up nightmare for almost anyone in the entire state. He stands at 6’7″ and weighs about 250 pounds. His athleticism is just through the roof, being just as quick as someone 6 inches shorter than him. He gets to the backfield quickly and did that against Prairie HS all night long. He finished with 3 sacks on the night as well as 3 swatted passes. Something that caught my eye more was his 2 blocked PAT’s in this game. His big frame and long wingspan helped him out in that situation. He’s a force this year and is improving every week.
Highlights
Jabrayan Richburg
Jabrayan Richburg
Richburg is another 2024 defensive lineman who has had a great year this year and will have a big senior year next year as well. Against Central Kitsap in week 5, he compiled 5 tackles, 3 of those for loss and even blocked a punt on special teams. He has great strength, being able to push many offensive lineman off balance and get by them. His speed and athleticism was on full display when he blocked the punt as in a blink of an eye, he was in the backfield blocking it.
Brycen Powell
Brycen Powell
Brycen is a very “under the radar” type of player that more people should be talking about. He stands at about 6’4″ and usually plays on the edge of the defensive line. His anticipation is very good, being able to sense where the ball carrier will be going next. He gets to the ball carrier quickly as well, showing off his speed. He wraps up nicely, having good tackling technique on the field. You can tell he enjoys contact, as he always is including himself in the action as much as he can.
Carlos is a top 25 defensive lineman in the entire class of 2023 in the state of Washington, according to PrepRedZoneWA. His play on the field has been showing people why he might just be higher than that now after improving his game. He can play inside or outside in the defensive line. He has pass rushing moves that are impressive and help him get into the backfield quickly to disturb the quarterback or wrap up the running back. His strength allows him to take on two offensive lineman with ease, sometimes getting by both of them.
Fernando Reyes Jr
Fernando Reyes Jr
Fernando has an extremely bright future on the football field. He’s only in the 2025 class and has already shown impressive things on the field. While being able to line up anywhere on the defensive line, Reyes stands out to me when he’s rushing from the edge. His reaction time is quick, often bursting into the offensive line extremely quickly. He’s got great strength, as not many offensive lineman have been able to hold him in place and control him. He’s going to be extremely fun to watch as the years go on.
