I am listing the players who’s stat line stood out, who people recommended but most importantly, ONLY players who either I watched live or was able to watch highlights from their specific game. For the best chance to be featured, send me your weekly film on twitter. My handle is “@DevinRecord”, please don’t have any hard feelings if you weren’t included.
**Caleb attends Rainier Beach HS now**
Caleb is a top 3 player in the entire state of Washington and he makes plays all over the field. He shuts down his entire half of the field, practically every single time he is out there. During Rainier Beach’s week 4 win against Ballard HS, the senior scored on two different occasions. One being an interception that he took all the way to the house and the other being a kickoff return for a touchdown, showing off his abilities in the open field. He had 2 interceptions on the night. I personally can’t wait to see what school Caleb will be attending after high school.
Cole Adams
Cole Adams
As I’ve mentioned, I don’t write about freshman during these articles very much, as most of them have upper class-man above them. Cole has earned his way up fast during this season to gain some playing time. Against Blaine HS, he gave everyone a little sneak peak of what the next three seasons after this one will be like. He read the quarterback well and stayed patient all night long. He showed off his vertical when the Blaine quarterback threw it up to test Adams, which went well for the freshman as he came up with the pick. He also had 4 tackles on the night and scored on the offensive side. He’s only going to improve as the years go on.
Wyatt has been playing absolutely outstanding during the first 4 weeks of the season and the Puyllup defense is playing as good as anyone in the state. Against Sumner HS, Gordon continued his dominant start. He complied 21 tackles, 3 being for loss. He was in the backfield all over the ball carrier all night long. He sheds blocks very well and is just as quick as anyone in the state. He leads by example on the football field and does so very well, whichever college is lucky enough to land his defensive back will be grateful they have him.
On the opposite side of the same game I just mentioned, Sumner’s Jay Mentink Jay Mentink 5’11” | 180 lbs | DB Sumner | 2023 State WA had a great showing against Puyallup. He proved why he was a top 50 player in the class of 2023. He was fantastic in the pass game, as usual, showing off his range by reading the quarterback and quickly jumping in front of the receiver for an interception. He even showed off his speed on the offensive side of the ball, outrunning a cornerback for a 46 yard touchdown. He’s a standout on the baseball diamond and will be headed to Princeton University next year.
Nick Watt
Nick Watt
Nick has been featured in this series of articles during a previous week and deserves another mention. During his week 4 game against Archbishop-Murphy, he continued to show the state why he’s one of the most underrated defensive backs in the 2023 class. He compiled 9 tackles on the night, leading the Storms defense to a dominant performance as a whole. He reads quarterbacks well and has great tackling technique, not letting the ball carrier by him often. Coaches need to start putting him on their radars!
