Mentink is an excellent dual sport athlete (football/baseball) that is committed to Princeton. At 5’11” 180 lbs. he possesses a versatile skillset with strong natural instincts and playmaking ability. He’s a savvy safety with great range and anticipation to effectively cover the whole field. He’s patient and efficient with his movement while doing a great job reading the QB’s eyes and putting himself in position to be a difference maker. Triggers quickly and flashes excellent short area burst to close space and play the ball at the intersect point. Plus ball skills to track and adjust to ball flight. Physical and aggressive style of play, he’s not afraid to come downhill and deliver strong contact with good leverage and balance. Highly competitive and well-rounded athlete.

On the opposite side of the same game I just mentioned, Sumner’s Jay Mentink Jay Mentink 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Sumner | 2023 State WA had a great showing against Puyallup. He proved why he was a top 50 player in the class of 2023. He was fantastic in the pass game, as usual, showing off his range by reading the quarterback and quickly jumping in front of the receiver for an interception. He even showed off his speed on the offensive side of the ball, outrunning a cornerback for a 46 yard touchdown. He’s a standout on the baseball diamond and will be headed to Princeton University next year.
