Cottee has had an elite career for South Vigo and it recently just included adding a new record to his time there. Cottee became the all-time leading rusher this past season and he’s showing no reason to slow down. He’s a fantastic athlete who has great contact balance and is able to lower his shoulder to finish runs. On the season he put up 1700 scrimmage yards and 21 total TDs. Cottee has elite vision and the feet to match. He’s able to hop into any gap, he stays light on his feet, and is great at the 45 degree cuts when he needs to. His feet typically don’t cross and he’s got the stiff-arm down which helps extend runs. He’s able to change direction without much momentum lose and is able to fight through arm tackles. Cottee then has fantastic speed and once he hits the open field he’s not being run down. He’s capable out of the backfield and could develop into a 3-down back at the next level. Pass protection is a work in progress but as he hits the weight room and develops physically I expect that to clean right up. Cottee has a decent frame and is only going to come along and help a program. He’s a dynamic back with all the tools you look for in a back. He’s able to run in between the tackles, can come out of the backfield, and isn’t afraid to step in the middle to pick up the blitz. If he’s able to continue developing and hit his stride, he could be a game changing RB at the next level and do the same thing for that school as he is South Vigo.
Carter Pearison – South Vigo – LS/OG – 6’0″ – 210lbs – 2023
Pearison is a fantastic long snapper who is going to see the field at the next level. When you ask a random fan what positions are important on the field, they’ll probably never even think of Long Snapper, but without him, you can’t score points outside of TDs and going for 2 or punt the ball. Think about that for a second. That’s how important Long Snappers are but they get 0 love. However, if they mess up 1 snap people will never let them forget. A cruel job, but it’s why having a reliable snapper is so important. Pearison is good and for good reason. His snaps are consistent, they have a little heat to them, and most importantly Pearison is able to snap it and spin it with the spiral just right to get the laces facing away. Long Snapping is one of the few jobs where you have to be pinpoint every time because there’s no time for error. Having someone as consistent as Pearison really helps the full Special Teams unit. Confidence is huge and there’s no better way to help a kicker than to get him a good Long Snapper. Pearison is going to make some Special Teams unit better and the schools that should be interested in him should be endless.
Phillip Newman – South Vigo – DT – 6’0″ 230lbs – 2023
Newman is a wrecking ball in the middle of the line and has impacted every game to this point. I’m not usually someone who likes to post a ton of stats but 70 tackles in 9 games strictly in the interior of the line is insane. Newman single-handedly could plug the running game from time to time. He’s someone who can control his portion of the LOS and when it’s right smack in the middle that’s an issue for offenses. He’s able to get pressure on the QB as well coming from the middle. Newman plays lower and that gives him leverage almost every rep. He’s powerful and understands how to make the tough play when it comes his way. He’s not the biggest sack monster, mainly because they panic and take off when he gets there, but he’s consistent and will be interrupting the flow regularly. As he comes along physically and gets familiar with a college lifting program, he could really blow up. He’s naturally strong and has a high motor on the field. His consistency down after down to win at the LOS and then make the play is as impressive as anything. Having that many tackles as a DT in 9 games really speaks to the level and volume in which he’s affecting the LOS and the interior the opposing lines. Newman has had a fantastic year and is one of the better interior Defensive Linemen in the region and has earned that title.
Brady Wilson – South Vigo – QB – 5’10” – 2025
Wilson is a fantastic recruit who has all the makings to develop into a special recruit by the time he graduates. He’s a decent athlete and can extend plays, step up in the pocket, or take off and run and pick up chunks of yards at a time. He’s best when he’s able to sit back and deal heat. He can move and doesn’t struggle when flushed, but like most QBs he’s dangerous when he’s got time. For a Sophomore, Wilson has played at a higher level than people expected heading into the season and he never slowed down. He’s only gotten more confident and better as the season has gone on. He’s able to throw with anticipation and hit guys where only they have a shot at it. Right now, he doesn’t have the biggest arm but that’ll continue develop over the next few years. Wilson has had success against the blitz as well and can stand in there and deliver the ball under-pressure. He’s listed at 5’10” now but could easily be much taller than that as well which only helps him see the field better. Wilson helped lead the Braves to a 6-3 regular season and is heading into his first playoff start with as much confidence as a young QB can have. Keep an eye on Wilson over the next few years because his name could become much more common in the State of Indiana.
Sean Murphy – South Vigo – OL – 6’3″ 275lbs – 2025
Murphy is a physical beast who has the size and length to develop into a starting lineman at the next level. His 6’3″ frame is noticeable and obvious in how it gives him advantages on reaching defenders and being able to leverage them down. Murphy is able to play on both the interior and exterior the line and have success. I do think he’ll likely stay on the outside at the next level. He’s a sophomore and standing at 6’3″ 275lbs. By the time he graduates he could be pushing 6’6″ and that kind of length is usually on the outside because of how much the extra reach helps Tackles. Murphy’s size is impressive but I do think he’s got some work to do mechanically and with his frame. If he’s able to clean up some footwork and gaining depth while potentially getting ahead of the D1 lifting program, he could develop into an elite prospect. Murphy has an edge to his game when he gets on the field and plays angry. He’s got violent hands and likes to hit. He’s decent on the move and is able to hit his landmark on the second level most of the time. Murphy has done a fantastic job on the outside of the line and should give Wilson plenty of time for the next few years when he drops back. Murphy is a name we should watch because with how he’s played this year and his upside it would be crazy not to keep tabs on a player like him.
Deshaun Lowe Deshaun Lowe 5'9" | 160 lbs | WR West Vigo | 2023 State IN – South Vigo – RB/WR – 5’9″ 160lbs – 2023
Lowe remains as one of my favorite players to watch and he’s had another fantastic year. I know the knock on him his likely his physical measurables but it shouldn’t be. When you have an elite and special ability to make guys miss, create something out of nothing, and be one of the most slippery players in the entire state that needs to count for something. When Lowe has the ball in his hands he’s a nightmare to bring down. He’s primarily a WR but if he wanted to develop into an elite weapon out of the backfield he could. He’s got soft hands, likes to get up field, and has some of the best ball skills in the state. Lowe is fantastic down the field and is able to lay out, dive, and adjust to make some pretty spectacular grabs. He’s also willing to block for his teammates and make the unselfish play. Lowe could also do some damage in the kicking game if he was asked to. He’s got the speed, agility, and vision to be a good returner. Lowe works hard and is always outside on the field during the summer just trying to get some work in. He’s a fantastic play-maker and someone is going to end up with a gem that makes their team better.
