In the 2021 postseason, the Spartans pulled off the upset at West Delaware in earning a trip to the state semifinals in the UNI-Dome. They rolled in this one, 42-18.
I scouted Solon when it played host to Grinnell earlier this season. I wrote of scouting reports on several Spartans, which you can read HERE.
In this report, I added in a few more Spartans who stood out along with some standouts from West Delaware:
Luke Reth
Luke Reth
The big fella is heading to Northern Iowa, where he could develop into a key contributor for a program that produces high-level guys at his position. Reth boasts a solid frame on which to build and it comes with nice athleticism. Like other linemen who wrestle, Reth plays with good leverage, footwork and hands. He also impresses on defense.
Will Ward
Will Ward
Ward is well put together. He runs physically when carrying the ball and brings that on defense as well. A Safety with strong coverage skills and a knack for supporting the run could be his position if he plays on the next level. He might also line up as a power back.
Brent Yonkovic
Brent Yonkovic
I’m intrigued to see how Yonkovic develops during the next two seasons. He already possesses a good feel for the game and shows strong leadership skills as a young player. He plays quarterback because that’s where you often put your best athlete. He could project as a slot receiver or defensive back in college.
Adam Smith
Adam Smith
Solon loves to run behind the big senior. The Spartans carve out a lot of ground yards carrying the ball behind him. He moves defenders in the rushing game and holds up well in pass pro thanks to fast feet, balance and hand placement.
Oaken Foster
Oaken Foster
The Spartans prefer running the ball. What helps them succeed at it is Foster’s work on the outside. He’s a threat in the passing game with good size and length. Defenses must respect that part of Solon’s offense. He also blocks well and aids the ground game in that aspect.
Grant Wilson
Grant Wilson
Wilson plays a lot bigger than his current size. He accomplishes it by getting under the pads of opponents and using his strength to move them. He sees the field well and stays low in pass pro. I think this kid has a chance to take a big step forward next season to be one of the state’s top centers.
