With four separate divisions, we have nine OAA teams that have clinched a postseason bid, with a maximum of 14 playoff teams depending on how Week 9 pans out. Though after week 8, the OAA named their league champions. Let’s take a look at each league’s final standings and briefly review the season for each league.
Gold
Final Standings “*” = Clinched Playoffs
1. Ferndale (4-0)
2. Avondale (3-1)*
3. Berkley (2-2)
4. Royal Oak (1-3)
5. Pontiac (0-4)
I owe Ferndale an apology. I mean, this team truly bounced back after a 1-4 start. I don’t think any of these teams are where they need to be to compete for a state title, but Ferndale and Avondale took steps in the right direction. Berkley took a big step back while Royal Oak and Pontiac continued to struggle.
Blue
Final Standings
T1. Farmington (3-1)*
T1. Seaholm (3-1)*
T3. North Farmington (2-2)
T3. Troy (2-2)*
5. Troy Athens (0-4)
Farmington defeated Seaholm 39-21 last night to secure a share of the OAA Blue Championship. I truly beleive both Farmington and Seaholm have the tools to compete for a D2 Championship. North Farmintgon will miss the postseaosn, and Troy is a low-tier D1 playoff team, and Athens will look to rebuild after this season.
White
Final Standings
1. Southfield A&T (5-0)*
2. Rochester (4-1)
3. Groves (3-2)
4. Harper Woods (2-3)
5. Bloomfield Hills (1-4)
6. Oak Park (0-5)
Strangely enough, the OAA White may only have one playoff team this season. Southfield A&T has the resume, experience, and talent to win a D1 State Championship. Rochester needs to win against Renaissance to make the postseaosn, and Groves may need to defeat Seaholm to make the postseason. Harper Woods could squeak into the playoffs if they beat Roseville. Bloomfield Hills and Oak Park will have to wait until next season, and it’s going to be interesting to see who potentially moves up to the Red and down to the Blue.
Red
Final Standings
T1. Clarkston (4-1)*
T1. Rochester Adams (4-1)*
T1. West Bloomfield (4-1)*
4. Lake Orion (2-3)
5. Stoney Creek (1-4)
6. Oxford (0-5)
I firmly believe that the OAA Red is the best league in Michigan. In the Red, we have three teams that are expecting to go to Ford Field this November. Clarkston, Adams, and West Bloomfield are all blue blood programs with multiple Division 1 recruits. The top 3 teams all deserve a share in the title because they’re all extremely evenly matched with similar resumes. Lake Orion will make the postseason if they defeat Saline next week, which is no easy task. Stoney Creek played excellent against non-league opponents and will make the postseason if they beat Anchor Bay next week. Oxford is completely eliminated from playoff contention. There is a great chance that 5 OAA Red teams will make the postseason.
