Both teams were 6-1 coming into this matchup with very high powering offenses as both were averaging over 30 points per game. With the bad weather, the heavy wind and hard rain along with the freezing cold, it was a battle to the very end as both defenses were phenomenal with getting stops. Glenbard South got on the board first with a 90 yard TD run from the dominant Jalen Brown Jalen Brown 6'2" | 190 lbs | RB Glenbard South | 2023 State IL in the 2nd quarter. From then on out, it was a battle for both teams as Glenbard East got into the redzone twice but ended up coughing up the ball inside the five both times. Fast Forward to 1:15 left in the 4th, Glenbard East has the ball after they got Glenbard South to punt. The very next thing you know, QB Dillon Williams Dillon Williams 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Glenbard East | 2023 IL finds Yassin Nabil Yassin Nabil 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Glenbard East | 2023 State IL for a 62 yard TD catch giving them the lead 7-6 with less than a minute left in the game. Safe to say both TDs in this game were HUGE plays that changed momentum in this game. Glenbard East was able to hold Glenbard South to pull off the last second victory moving to 7-1. Without further ado, let’s dive into the Glenbard East Standouts.

Mr. Williams had a solid outing in Friday Night’s game. His mobility is one to keep an eye on this season as there were countless times where he used his legs to pick up the first to keep the chains moving. This was seen both by running the option as well as pulling the ball down to scramble if he sees green grass in front of him. The weather conditions were harsh and calmed down later in the game, this is when he was able to flash his ability to add a touch on level 2 throws. Late in the game, this young man stood strong in the pocket getting the ball off under pressure delivering a bomb hitting Yassin Nabil Yassin Nabil 5’10” | 160 lbs | WR Glenbard East | 2023 State IL for a 62-yard TD to go up 7-6 with 1:15 left in the 4th. What I’m interested to see out of this young man is how his arm talent fairs when weather conditions are better to get a better insight into his passing ability. There’s no doubt he has legs to him and can use his mobility to beat opposing defenses. Keep an eye on this signal caller as we round out the rest of the regular season and head into playoff action. Mr. Larson has been on my radar for some time now and continues to impress. His vision stands out as he can not only find running lanes quickly between the tackles but he can also find cutback lanes to break long runs. Once he does so, he uses his foot quicks to weave in/out of 2nd level defenders and can bounce plays outside to turn the corner. There’s one play that stood out the most and that was in the 3rd quarter where he broke a long run. He did so by using a jump cut once he got through the hole to hit opposite field and almost came away with beating the last defender along the sideline. All in all, this is an up-and-coming halfback that can be a force in both offensive attacks. Twitter

Dimitri Hritz
Dimitri Hritz
This was my first time seeing Mr. Hritz in action and caught my eye with his performance on both sides of the ball. On offense, he’s more of a downhill runner used in short yardage situations. This young man has a quick burst to him to get through the line of scrimmage once the ball is in his hands and anticipates contact well. So much so, that he keeps his feet driving through contact where he can break weak grab tackles to pick up extra yards on the play. On defense, he works as an inside linebacker that did a good job for most of the night filling holes in run support and shooting gaps as well. Overall, this young man could very well be an X factor for this team as we near playoff action. Twitter
Mr. Nabil’s ability to secure catches in the flat and get vertical quickly are one defenses need to gameplan against. If you don’t tackle him right away in the flat, he has the foot quicks to break long runs along the sideline. This is exactly what happened in the 3rd quarter where he broke a long run being brought down at the 1-yard line. His foot quicks are also showcased when he runs jet sweeps threatening to turn the corner. Where he came up big was late in the 4th securing the game-winning TD on a 62-yard TD catch after he closed space on the defender quickly and broke the defender off at the top of the route with a speed cut. All in all, this young man’s ability to turn a three yard route into a big gain is one to keep an eye on. Twitter
Highlights
Mr. Garcia was able to come down in run support all night to secure tackles along the perimeter and in the flat. One play that stood out, in particular, was when he triggered downhill quickly from the secondary to deliver on the tight end as he was securing the ball for a loss on the play. This gives a good insight into his closing speed as before the tight end even had a chance to make a move this young man was wrapping him up and bringing him down. It’s this type of play that’s going to separate good teams from great teams – when you have players that fly to the ball and can make plays. Twitter
Mr. Taylor was a consistent threat off the edge Friday night on passing downs. His ability to beat the offensive tackle to the turn point was impressive when he used his speed rush. Once he turned the corner he was able to close quickly generating pressure on the QB. This would result in errant throws, flushing the QB out of the pocket, and having one of his other teammates secure the sack by collapsing the pocket. As we head into playoff action, be sure to keep an eye on this young man with his pass rush. Twitter

Last but not least, we’re taking a look at Mr. Mack. This young man is a new name to me this fall season and one that came up big late in the game on a crucial 4th down to seal the win for his team. He did so by getting his hands up at the line of scrimmage to block the passing lane and deflect the pass resulting in a turnover on downs. Throughout the game, this young man was able to plug gaps in run support. More specifically with the A & B gaps as he works as a defensive tackle. This is where he flashes his ability to be a two-gap defender at the next level. Twitter
