There are six games in the KLAA that will have major playoff implications. Today, I’ll be briefly previewing every single KLAA week 8 matchup because every single one of these is great and could go either way!
Livonia Franklin (7-0) @ Belleville (7-0)
Although both programs are an undefeated 7-0, I think we all know who the favorite is here. Although Belleville, on paper, has the superior talent being the defending D1 State Champions, don’t count Livonia Franklin out. Both teams have been dominating the competition, and Franklin has some great wins against Dearborn and Canton, while being the #3 team in Division 2 in terms of playoff points. If Livonia Franklin can play a complete team game with zero mistakes, they have a shot.
Canton (2-5) @ Hartland (4-3)
Both teams are still technically fighting for a playoff spot, but things don’t look good for Canton. Still, Hartland is #25 in Division 1, and playoffs surely aren’t a given at this point of the season. If Hartland wins, they’re in.
Fordson (2-5) @ Dearborn (5-2)
A classic rivalry game here. Although the team’s records are the opposite, this game is usually extremely exciting. Dearborn broke a 3-year losing steak against Fordson last year, and they’ll be looking to start a streak of their own this Friday.
Howell (3-4) @ Brighton (7-0)
Although Brighton is undefeated, Howell beat this team last year, and they’re fighting for a playoff spot, being the #38 team in D1. Now, if I had to guess, If Howell wins against the #3 team in the state when it comes to playoff points, they’re in. It’s surely doable, as Brighton has had a few close games against similar opponents this season.
Churchill (2-5) @ Stevenson (3-4)
Stevenson is currently the last team in the D1 playoffs, while Churchill is lagging behind as the #43 squad in D2. Even if Churchill can’t make the postseason, how sweet would it taste to knock their rivals out of the postseason? Stevenson won 13-6 last season.
Northville (6-1) @ Novi (5-2)
What a wonderful bounce-back season it’s been for both programs. Northville is a great 6-1, with their only loss being against undefeated Brighton, while Novi has losses against Brighton and Belleville. Needless to say, this is as even of a matchup as you’ll get. These are both playoff teams that completely control their own destiny.
Salem (0-7) @ Plymouth (1-6)
Both of these teams are eliminated from postseason contention, but still, these seem to be two evenly-matched squads.
Wayne Memorial (0-7) @ John Glenn (2-5)
Again, both are eliminated from postseason contention, but this should be a good game.
