Level One saw plenty of upsets, blow outs, and best of all, impressive individual performances. We are going to dive into nine offensive performances in this week’s recap of the Level One playoffs. We have representatives from every position from OL to ATH. Coaches, make sure to check these athletes out. Each of them has next level talent. Let’s get it started!
Stats: 2 Receptions, 57 Yards, 2 TDsrnCarter possesses one of the more impressive frames in WI. He is a massive 6’7″ 240 lbs. The big man was able to stretch the field up the seam on both of his TD receptions. The defense allowed him to get a free release, and they let him get behind the second level of the defense. From there Kadow had enough speed to get to the endzone. Carter also moves well in the run game as a blocker. He can reach defenders a gap over, and that big frame has the power to create movement in the trenches. I’m excited to watch his growth and development over the next year. The junior could have a bright future at OL as well if he continues to fill out. His body control would be exceptional for that position.
Highlights
Marcelo Sanchez
Marcelo Sanchez
The 6’2″ 285 lbs right guard is new on my radar, and I have been missing out. Marcelo has a big, powerful upper body, and the athletic lower body you love to see on linemen. That athletically built lower body allows Sanchez to move smoothly in every direction. He can pull down the line, and he lands shots with heavy hands on his target. Marcelo is able to hit his targets thanks to that ability to make the subtle movements as his target tries to avoid him. He is at his best when he gets to pull and get out and move. A name to know going forward.
Quinten Hornada
Quinten Hornada
Stats: 20 Carries, 150 Yards, 5 TDsrnQuinten is an undersized, well put together back. He is 5’8″, but packs 175 lbs onto his frame. Quinten’s best trait is his contact balance. His center of gravity is so low to the ground making it hard for defender’s to get him off balance, and even harder to get him on the ground. Watch these highlights. There is one play where he gets so low it looked like he was a foot off the ground. He came out the other side, though, and broke free for one of his 5 TDs. Hornada also surprises with his strength. Hew as able to run through multiple arm tackles, and he finished runs well. It was a great showing by the senior.
Stats: 25/37, 223 Yards, 2 TDs, 1 Rushing TDrnThe 6’4″ 200 lbs junior QB is making a push for QB1 this season. He has the prototypical frame with the arm talent to match. The film is short, but look through his other cut ups as well. Jack has a smooth delivery and footwork. Everything works well together from his legs to his eyes. Speaking of legs, Jack can hurt a defense with his legs. Both outside the pocket, and inside it with his ability to slide to avoid. Sulik can place the ball accurately when using touch or letting it rip. I have been following his performances all season, and like what I have seen. He will be a name to know in the Class of 2024.
Stats: 7 Receptions, 84 Yards, 1 TD, 1 INTrnThe 6’2″ 190 lbs athlete had a nose for open field Friday night. He was able to get himself open repeatedly. Both within the timing of the play, and when the play broke down. It seemed like every catch was made with a couple yards of separation. Brody also made some nice concentration catches. One where he had to twist and reach back for the ball, and his interception came on a play where he did a nice job of high pointing the ball through contact. Hartig has received some D2 interest recently. He was on the Upper Iowa campus a couple weeks ago. A senior to watch.
Highlights
Stats: 16 Carries, 196 Yards, 2 TDsrnThe 6′ 185 lbs RB/LB is a play maker. That goes for both sides of the ball. Tanner has a nice blend of speed and power that allows him to run between the tackles and pick up big yardage out in space. That ability to play out in space has allowed him to make plays at LB as well. He can get into the backfield quickly to disrupt plays or he can slide out to the slot and play in the flats out in space. The productive senior is starting to see more attention as of late. Tanner holds offers from UW- Stout and Gustavus- Adolphus.
Highlights
Will Bieber
Will Bieber
Stats: 7 Carries, 162 Yards, 3 TDsrnI first came to know about Will during Coleman’s run to the state finals in 2021. He is back for another run, and the 6′ 165 lbs speedster is looks ready to go. Will is very productive, and efficient, with the ball in his hands. The stats will tell you that much. Coleman uses Bieber on a lot of misdirection. That allows him to use his speed to catch defenders over pursuing. Once he gets that it is hard to corral the speed back as he uses his vision to see the cutback lanes, blocks, and holes. The senior has produced a lot of big plays the last couple years. Check out his Hudl. Potential D3 talent.
Stats: 11/16, 142 Yards, 2 TDs, 8 Carries, 137 Yards, 2 TDsrnThis season has proven how much of a natural athlete Mason is. He has been a dominant dual threat QB all year, while also being productive at his more natural position of DB. Mason sees the field well on both sides of the ball. On offense, it allows him to find his open man, and find alleys to run through. His running is a game breaker. He has the speed to turn every carry into a score. Lane’s natural ability shines through in his passing also. He has become very sufficient as a passer. The ball comes out quick, he makes good decisions, and he puts the ball where it needs to be to give his man a chance at it. I’m excited for his recruitment over the next year.
Stats: 16 Carries, 113 Yards, 3 TDsrnCortez has put together a special season. He did all his damage on Friday in one half of football. It doesn’t take long for the 5’10” 175 lbs RB to take over a game. He has special play making abilities. The highlight reel plays seem easy for him thanks to his superior traits. Cortez is a patient ball carrier behind the line, and when he sticks his foot in the ground he accelerates through the hole off the block he let set up. Then he uses his track speed to pull away and quick twitch lateral movement to make defenders miss. Get him the ball, and get him ou tin space. Big things will happen. He came into the season as one of the best, and has only improved. He is also the most consistently high producing senior RB.
