Frosh to Watch
Trevon Salas, Mesa Ridge Grizzlies (RB)(Fr.)(5) – Salas is easily the top freshman tailback through seven games in 2022, with him quickly becoming a focal point of the Grizzlies offense. Looking at Salas’s numbers through the first seven games of his prep career, he has accounted for 501 yards rushing and 7 rushing touchdowns on 85 carries (5.9 YPC) while also adding 19 yards receiving. Unfortunately, there isn’t any film of Salas available, so I’m not able to provide an honest evaluation of his traits to this point in his career. With that being said, however, he is a talented player with the numbers supporting that. I have a feeling this isn’t the last time I’ll be writing about Salas between now and 2026.
Adrian Symalla, Arvada West Wildcats (RB)(Fr.)(12) – Not far behind Salas on the “leading freshman tailbacks” list is Symalla, who is quickly establishing himself as a playmaker for a good Arvada West Wildcats team. Through seven games this season for the Wildcats offense, Symalla has accounted for 310 yards rushing and 3 rushing touchdowns on 71 carries (4.4 YPC) as well as 23 yards receiving. Putting on the tape of Symalla, you can see he is a decisive and highly explosive, one-cut runner that can quickly hit top gear if given enough space. Great top-end foot speed allows him to pull away from most 2nd and 3rd level defenders if they take a bad angle. Deceptively powerful runner with a well-built frame (5’11, 180 lbs) that brings plenty of force behind his pads at the point-of-attack when making contact with the defender. Much like Salas, I have a feeling this isn’t the last time I’ll be writing about Symalla before his prep career is finished.
