On this Freshman Report, we highlight some of those freshmen making waves while playing under the radar.
CJ Britt CJ Britt 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Lanier Christian Academy | 2026 State GA – QB – Lanier Christian Academy
Britt has quietly been one of the most productive and efficient freshmen in the state. On the year, he has helped lead Lanier Christian through their first seven games with a 5-2 record and has thrown for over 1000 yards and 19 TDs. On the ground, he adds another 123 rushing yards and 6 TDs. Britt has been productive, but he has also been efficient and has done a great job of protecting the football. On 94 pass attempts, he has completed 68% of his passes and has yet to throw an INT. On tape, I am very impressed with Britt’s quick release, which allows him to be very efficient in the screen and short game. To go along with that, he does a great job of extending the play by climbing the pocket and keeping his eyes downfield, which can sometimes lead to big gains in the air or on the ground. As a runner, he doesn’t shy away from contact and has enough speed to hold defenses accountable. All in all, Britt has some good intangibles and has been very efficient as a freshman, so it should be fun to watch his development.
Dylan Barber – QB – Heritage
Barber is yet another QB that has been quietly producing at a very high level to start his career. He has completed nearly 70% of his passes for almost 1200 yards and 17 TDs against just 2 INTs. He has also been very efficient on the ground, rushing for 271 yards and 3 TDs on close to 14 yards per carry. There are a couple of things that stand out on film when watching Barber play. One, he showcases some great footwork in the pocket and the ability to go through his progressions. Oftentimes, he makes throws to his 3rd and maybe even his 4th read, which is something we don’t see often in younger QBs. Barber also shows off some arm talent. He has a longer release, but the ball flies out of his hand which allows him to make some of the harder throws on the field. He also flashes the ability to put some air under the ball and make the throws that require more touch. Barber is a good athlete and is a good decision-maker. Once he tightens up his release and continues to grow, he will make some noise on a broader scale.
Amari Latimer – RB – Sandy Creek
Latimer is setting the foundation for a very strong career with an outstanding freshman season. So far, he has been an extremely versatile and dangerous playmaker at the RB position, rushing for a little under 500 yards and adding another 100 yards receiving. Before you dig into his film, Latimer has a great frame for an RB at his age. At 5’10 175, he has a lot of length and plenty of room to fill out. I would not be shocked if he ended up taller than 6 feet. On tape, he is an extremely patient runner that can weave in and out of running lanes smoothly. He is not the biggest back, but he does do a good job of fighting for extra yards. Latimer won’t run a 4.3, but he has long strides and can accelerate with the best of them. Latimer also spends some time on the defensive side of the ball at LB, but with his frame and versatility on offense, I believe his future is at RB. Once he fills out, I believe he could grow into a consensus FBS prospect.
Joshua Washington – ATH – Savannah Country Day
The Savannah area frequently pumps out legit D1 caliber players yearly, and Washington will eventually join that list. Washington is a bonafide playmaker on both sides of the ball, and there is reason to believe he could develop into a bonafide prospect both at receiver and at DB. On the offensive side of the ball, he is about as complete of a playmaker as possible when it comes to being a freshman. He doesn’t overwhelm anyone with his size at around 5’10 170, but he does showcase some serious leaping ability as he is able to go up and get it over any defender. He also has the uncanny ability to create space, which starts with his explosiveness off the line and ends with his twitchiness to shake defenders. Washington is also extremely effective in the short and run game, where his change of direction and sheer speed are on display. To go along with his elite tools at receiver, I also believe he has plenty of promise at the safety spot with his speed coming downhill and his ability to make plays on the ball. Regardless of where he plays, I think Washington has some serious tools and will put them on display over the next few seasons.
Kadin Fossung Kadin Fossung 6'3" | 200 lbs | LB Gainesville | 2026 State GA – EDGE – Gainesville
Fossung is a prospect that I was introduced to over the summer. So far, he has shown plenty of promise on film and is validating some hype. Standing at around 6’3 195, Fossung isn’t built like the prototype EDGE rusher that will scare you walking off the bus, but he has a lot of room to fill out, and you can tell he is still growing. Even though he is a smaller prospect, he can be seen on film getting the best of much bigger offensive linemen. For starters, he plays with tremendous effort and does everything he can to fight off blockers, which works in his favor a lot of times. It doesn’t hurt that he is very fast off the edge and has good bend. Where Fossung really separates himself is his technique. He uses his long and strong arms to his advantage, punching and ripping through blocks to create space. Oftentimes, you can see opposing players taken back by the sheer power he generates through his arms. Once he adds even more weight and strength, he could turn into a game-breaker. Fossung may look like a freshman, but he plays years ahead of his age and is only getting bigger and better from here.
Syr Hunter – DB – Gainesville
Hunter is a prospect that has been garnering some P5 buzz for the better part of a year now. Hunter, now at Gainesville, trains with Oliver Davis, who has worked with stars like Jaycee Horn, AJ Terrell, Jalen Ramsey, and numerous others. For that reason, it is safe to assume that Hunter has a solid foundation for success. There are a few things that stand out about Hunter. One is that he is extremely twitchy and light on his feet, which allows him to break on the ball quickly. Another thing that stands out is that he has good ball skills and is very disciplined in coverage. By all accounts, Hunter is a hard worker that possesses some intangible traits. Once the light comes on, Hunter, who we project at safety, will break onto the scene.
