Division 2
Region 1
District 1
Forest Hills Central defeats Reeths-Puffer 32-6: Although this outcome is not surprising, I expected this game to be a lot closer. Reeths-Puffer is a team that only gave up 15 points to Mona Shores and only lost to Muskegon by a touchdown. Some were still debating how good FHC is, and this should help.
Mona Shores defeats Traverse City Central 48-20: Expectedly, Mona Shores defeats a rebuilding Traverse City Central team. Still, it’s impressive that Shores handled the 2021 runners-up so easily. Next week’s matchup against Forest Hills Central should be a great one!
District 2
Portage Northern defeats Byron Center 44-22: Nearly everyone in the media picked Byron Center, but I’m proud to say I picked Portage Northern. I was at this game, and Portage Northern was dominant in most aspects. Xavior Tyus Xavior Tyus 5'7" | 170 lbs | RB Portage Northern | 2023 State MI was a beast on the ground, and the Huskies generally dominated the trenches. BC could get some good passes off, but their run game was nonexistent other than the occasional QB-designed run. I can’t stress this enough; Xavior Tyus Xavior Tyus 5'7" | 170 lbs | RB Portage Northern | 2023 State MI was extremely impressive and by far the best player on the field tonight.
East Lansing defeats Battle Creek Central 24-0: Again, most media members picked Battle Creek Central, but I had a good feeling about East Lansing. EL is a very talented team that was at times, inconsistent, but they dominate this one.
Region 2
District 1
Midland defeats Swartz Creek 42-15: The expected outcome for the undefeated Chemics. Very curious how they fare next week, then likely against Dexter.
Heritage @ Mott Oct. 29
District 2
Dexter defeats Milford 41-15: Milford puts up a bit of a fight, but Dexter outmatches Milford in every facet. Dexter will be favored text week, and the week after if they advance that far.
South Lyon defeats South Lyon East 30-27 (OT): I love rivalry matchups in the playoffs! This time, South Lyon pulls off the slight upset over South Lyon East. It’s a crusher for East, who defeated South Lyon just last week.
Region 3
District 1
Livonia Franklin defeats Crestwood 54-7: Expected. Now, Franklin will be favored against Bedford, but it won’t be an easy game.
Bedford defeats Farmington 41-28: Farmington stuck around for a while, but Bedford pulled away towards the end. I thought Farmington could have a shot, but no.
District 2
Seaholm defeats Ferndale 46-6: I expected this game to be a tad closer, but Seaholm just keeps on dominating inferior opponents. Next week’s game against Groves is one of the best Round 2 playoff games!
Groves defeats Warren Mott 43-7: Expected. Next week against Rival Seaholm will be absolutely incredible! Groves defeated Seaholm two weeks ago 14-7. Winner will go on to face either Franklin or Bedford in the Regional Finals.
Region 4
District 1
Roseville defeats Cousino 49-7: The expected outcome. Still, what an incredible bounce-back season it was for Cousino!
De La Salle defeats GP South 40-0: Expected! Suprised it was a shutout, though.
District 2
Lakeview defeats Port Huron Northern 33-27: We knew this would would be close, and Lakeview ends up pulling off the slight upset.
L’Ance Creuse @ Port Huron Oct. 29
